To buy, or not to buy

So, I was browsing over at Right Stuf again when I came across the one set of Fushigi Yugi OAVs (I don't know the proper name of it, but it's the one with nine episodes) I don't have in the Weekly Specials. They've marked it down from $75 to $45. I'm tempted to get it since I'm already planning on taking advantage of their Funimation sale this weekend to get the last two boxsets for Fullmetal Alchemist, but I don't know... Forty-five dollars for just nine episodes still seems like a rip-off to me, even if the price is comparable to the retail price of the FMA boxsets, which have roughly the same amount of episodes -- thus why I was waiting for a Funimation sale before I ordered them. :P It might be better for me just to get some more manga.

For those who have seen the OAV, what do you suggest? Is it worth the price? I didn't really care for the other OAV, if that helps, so if it is worse than that one, I'm not interested.

I can't speak as to the relative quality of the two. That's because the other OAV was a sequel/follow-up/whatever to this one--hence, I stayed as far away from that one as I could get.

Some of the omakes are amusing, but other than that...the plot (such as it is) is essentially pulling the rug out from under the ending to the TV series with regards to a certain character, then pulling the rug out from under itself--and doing it again. The set consists of three trilogies, and the "ending" of each is ostensibly reaching the same resolution as the TV series reached...but for the first two, there's another trilogy on the way, so obviously, they didn't really do it, did they? :P

Words do not begin to describe how bad the OAVs are. As far as I'm concerned, FY ended with the close of the TV series, and the five hours of my life I wasted watching those things never happened.

I don't really like FY, so I'm biased, but I've seen the OAVs and they're not worth it... but that's just me.

Personally, Noriko was the only fabulous character in FY and we all know what happened to him!
