*sigh*

I didn't do very well picking out this year's Oscar winners. :( I only got six right for Art Direction, Directing, Documentary Feature, Film Editing, Sound Editing, and Adapted Screenplay. For the longest time, I didn't think I would get any at all. It was well into the show before I finally got one right (Documentary Feature).

Oh, well, at least I managed to beat Mom. She only got three right. :P

Anyway, the Oscars were good. I thought Jon Stewart did a great job hosting. Man, those fake ads were hilarious!

The fashion was a bit disappointing, though, especially since everybody was saying that the trend would be to dress in old Hollywood glamour to complement the theme of the show, which I didn't really see much of. What was Naomi Watts thinking when she decided on that dress? *gags* I predict it'll be showing up on the Worst Dressed lists for sure. And I don't get why everybody was raving about Michelle Williams' gown. I guess the style was okay, although I could have done without the large ruffles, but that color was ugly. (Granted, I'm not a fan of orange or orange-y yellow, so I'm admittedly biased.) As for best dressed, my favorite was definitely Sandra Bullock's dress, with Keira Knightley and Ziyi Zhang coming in at second and third, respectively. I also rather liked Meryl Streep's gown. It would have been better in a different color -- she wore brown -- but the style was nice. (Edit: Oops, it was purple, which is infinitely better than brown.)

The fashion was pretty bad. Especially with McMurtry's jeans. What? Jon's reaction to that was very, very apt.

I loved the fake ads. Very Daily Show of them. (Actually had a Daily Show member's voice doing the voice overs. Sara says it's Stephen. I still think it's Rob. We'll fight over it later.)

And huh. I thought Meryl's was purple. Maybe my color is weird. (I would not be surprised. Grr, TV.)

Ah, it is purple! And now my love of the dress has increased. ^_^

I wonder why I thought it looked brown... It's not like brown and purple are very similar. Hmm.

Heh, and it looks like Sandra Bullock's dress was a dark blue instead of the black I thought it was. *laughs* Well, in either color, it was still the best dress of the night.

Well, it wasn't a bright purple, it was a dark purple. So, ya know.

Bullock's was pretty nice. And I would have liked Theron's dress if it weren't for, you know, the GIANT BOW OF UGLY DOOM sitting on her shoulder. What was up with that?

I know! Every time the camera went to her, I wanted to rip that thing off. It would have been a very nice dress minus that...thing.

No kidding. The first time I saw her, I was like, "PLEASE tell me that's my imagination or SOMETHING."

Nope. Just an ugly dress.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Oscars this year. My favorite, King Kong, only got three nominations, but it cleaned up in all three categories. :-)

Better yet, though, many of these victories feel deserved. Philip Seymour Hoffman got Best Actor. Reese Witherspoon got Best Actress (over Felicity Huffman, unfortunately, but I think Ms. Witherspoon has had this coming for a while, and she earned it). Ang Lee got Best Director for Brokeback Mountain, which I think is more meaningful than Best Picture, honestly, since Mr. Lee had a Hulk-sized to get off his back. (The look on his face when he won was heartening, and I think that nobody is going to ridicule him for Hulk again.) Points to (the oft-bemused) George Clooney, too. I think that Best Supporting Actor win was more of a nod to everything he did. (Nothing against Paul Giamatti, of course.)

As for the Crash upset, Paul Haggis has proven himself to be a mighty force. Between Crash and Million Dollar Baby, he can write his own meal ticket in Hollywood from this day forward. This takes nothing away from the Brokeback, which swept just about every other awards show this season, and will be in the public memory for a long, long time hereafter.

Sheesh. I feel like a commentator. :-)

Since I only saw a couple of the movies that were nominated, I'll take your word on it that they were deserved. ^_^

I picked Felicity Huffman as well, but I am happy that Reese Witherspoon won, since Walk the Line was one of the films I had seen and she really was good in that.
