Christmas fic

Just what I need...
Gah, I'm supposed to be focusing on Melting Ice, so why do I keep getting plot bunnies for other stories? It's so frustrating!
Somehow, despite my resolve to focus only on Melting Ice, I've started two -- TWO! -- more stories over the course of the last month. One is a Harry Potter Christmas story. I've been rereading the series, and while reading the Christmas chapter in CoS where Harry and Ron are trying to sneak into the Slytherins' common room, I was curious as to what exactly Percy and Penelope were up to in the dungeons. I've written a couple of scenes so far, but I think I've managed to convince myself to wait until closer to Christmas to continue it. By then, Melting Ice should be done (hopefully), and it'll be more fun to write when it's actually Christmas time.
The second story is much more of a problem, because I really, really, REALLY want to write it now. Has anybody read the manga Demon Love Spell? I picked up the first two volumes last week and really enjoyed them. It's about the unlikely romance between a Shinto priestess and a sex-crazed incubus, and it reminded me that I always did want to wrhite a Helios/Chibi-Usa story featuring an incubus as a villain. I actually did use an incubus and a succubus as minor monsters in one of my first fanfics (Star-Crossed Lovers, I think?), but this story line is a lot more interesting, in which a revenge-seeking incubus takes the guise of Helios and seduces Chibi-Usa in her dreams, eventually managing to convince her to live with him in her dreams forever. The real Helios then has to find a way to awaken her from her never-ending dream before she dies.
Man, I'd much rather be working on that than Melting Ice... I'm so stuck on that story, it's not even funny. *sigh* Maybe it would be better to work on something else for at least a couple of weeks...

Happy New Year
For my first post of 2009, a look back at 2008 through the traditional year-end fanfiction meme that always pops up around this time.
List of stories for 2008
Sailor Moon
Why Kenji Hates Mamoru and All Teenage Boys
A Father's Regret (SOF extra)
Broken Promise (SOF extra)
Princess Tutu
Search for the Missing Past
Fruits Basket
Playing Doctor
Just Dessert
Harry Potter
Birthday Fool
A Duty to Fight
I think that's all the stuff I wrote in 2008...
And now, the meme:
( 2008 Fanfiction Meme )
First Line meme from December
( 25 First Lines )
Well, the totally obvious pattern is that I apparently love starting stories with a piece of dialogue. The unapparent pattern, since the meme was only to post the first line and not the first paragraph, is that most of my first lines are also the complete first paragraphs. Seriously, pretty much half of these lines are first paragraphs. *laughs* What else is there? Well, it looks like three of them start with the words, “It was”. I suppose you could call that a small pattern. Oh, and most of them are in third person. Hmm, that’s really all I can see.
Happy April Fool's!
*feels smug*
Oh, and I've also posted my .moon Winter Challenge, which was a Harry Potter April Fool's story, at FF.net: Birthday Fool. (Warning: Post series) It's already up at .moon, and I'll be posting it in my writing journal later today.
Happy birthday, Fred and George!
Well, that's a surprise...
I'm a bit in shock, because the story I entered is definitely my least favorite of all the challenge entries I've written for the seasonal contest. The only reason I really entered it is because I spent so much time working on it, I thought it would be a waste not to go ahead and submit it. I never actually believed it had a chance of winning, but I guess it helped that there were only four entries this time. Still think December's story should have won instead, though; it was adorable.
Speaking of fanfiction, I'm currently taking a bit of a break from my Kaleido Star multi-part. For the past couple of weeks, I've actually been working on my first Princess Tutu fic (working title: Searching for the Missing Past). It's been going fairly well so far, but I'm having some trouble with the last part of the story, so yesterday I went back to a story that I've had on hiatus for quite a while: Only Human. Yep, my oft-mentioned, oft-ignored Helios/Serenity/Perle Thorn Birds-inspired love triangle fic. ^_^
And this time, I'm really determined to finish it. I always said I wanted to write at least one really good Helios/Chibi-Usa romance, so that's what I'm going to try to do, since this will most likely be my last major SM work. (I'll still write the occasional story for

Yeah, I'm late to the party (Beware spoilers if you somehow managed to keep yourself unspoiled)
Okay, I have finally finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, so now I can finally weigh in on some subjects I've wanted to discuss, but didn't feel like I should without reading the book itself first.
First off, though, here's my final ranking of all the books in the series, after having reread the first six before getting to DH:
1. Goblet of Fire
2. Half-Blood Prince
3. Chamber of Secrets
4. Deathly Hallows
5. Sorceror's Stone
6. Order of the Phoenix
7. Prisoner of Azkaban
Deathly Hallows might have been a little higher had the first half not been so meandering. Once they actually found out what the Deathly Hallows were, the book was fantastic, but getting there was a little sluggish at times.
Now, onto the aforementioned subjects I wanted to weigh in on.
Heh, this got a lot longer than I thought it would. *laughs* I think that's about everything I wanted to say, but if I think of anything else, I'll edit it in later.
Go me!
And guess what? I managed to beat it in a day. Granted, it was incredibly easy, except for the Occlumency lessons with Snape which gave me a renewed sympathy for Harry in the books -- talk about infuriating! -- but I do believe that's a new record for me for finishing a game. I didn't even play it for the entire day, since I was also taking breaks to reread Half-Blood Prince. (I'm almost finished, BTW. I should be done by tonight, then I can finally get started on Deathly Hallows. Yay!)
In other news, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Yesterday, I finished watching X the TV series, which I've been renting from Netflix, and absolutely fell in love with it. The problem is, the boxset at Right Stuf is very expensive -- about $113. Normally, when I consider an anime series too expensive to buy, I decide to get the manga instead (like with Ultramaniac), but in this case, it probably would be cheaper to buy the anime, since the unfinished manga is, I believe, about eighteen volumes long and on indefinite hiatus in Japan. Plus, I do like the fact that the anime has a definite ending, and it's supposedly a little less gory than the manga. (I was so glad that they didn't actually show Subaru losing his eye, but just enough to know what happened. *shudders*) Still, I really loved the characters and the story, so it might be nice to read the original version and see what was changed and left out...
Ugh! I can't decide!
Wahoo!
Finally,

In other news, Dejana is awesome! She sent me a copy of Deathly Hallows! I probably won't read it any time soon since I'm in the middle of rereading the series and I'm only on OotP, but it'll be nice to have once I finish with HBP. ^_^ (It is awfully tempting to skip ahead, though....)

Heh
Yeah, I'm in no real hurry to read the book. Current plans are to just wait until it comes out in paperback, since, as a general rule, I do not like paying more than ten dollars for a fictional book. (Nonfiction is different, since I care more about getting the most accurate and up-to-date information than what kind of cover it has.) However, if my mom offers to by me the hardback, I may take her up on it. I don't know... The spoilers I've read so far aren't exactly making me anxious to read it, since several of my favorite characters die. :( But at least it looks like my favorite theory was right, so that's something.
Taken from Sophia
Considering my last entry, I just had to do this meme.
Name five crossovers you'd love to read or write one of these days, no matter how cracked-out or improbable.
1. Sailor Moon/Grey's Anatomy - I think it would be really interesting if either Ami or Mamoru ended up interning at Seattle Grace, and the hospital ended up having to deal with the casualties of a youma attack, having no idea what was going on.
2. Card Captor Sakura/Ghost Whisperer - Melinda sees ghosts, Touya sees ghosts... It's a no-brainer. (See previous entry)
3. Sailor Moon/Witch Hunter Robin - I really do want to write this eventually. My idea has Robin, whose craft is fire, being related to Rei, a fact they discover when the STNJ starts investigating the Sailor Senshi, who they think are witches.
4. Someday's Dreamers/Harry Potter - A lot of HP crossovers from what I hear tend to be with series that don't really fit in with it, but Someday's Dreamers really would be a plausible HP crossover partner, IMO. Both series are about magical people learning how to use their powers, so I think they would complement each other well if done correctly.
5. Absolute Boyfriend/Chobits/Hand Maid May - *laughs* Yeah, I just want to see how somebody would handle a crossover with these three series about robots who look like people. I bet it would be a lot of fun. ^_^
5.
I can't believe I did that!

Hehe.
Now, onto the real subject of this post. Today, I got my B&N order, and I was dismayed to learn that instead of the Angelic Layer boxset I thought I ordered, I accidentally got the first disc with a box instead. Dummy Yume! *sigh* I can't believe I did that. I'm usually careful about that. Now I have to send it back, wasting that wonderful 40% off coupon I used it on. :( On the plus side, though, my Charlotte Church CD is awesome.
