Some intriguing news from ANN: Viz Offers Someday's Dreamers, More CLAMP from Tokyopop Digitally

License rescuing CLAMP titles? That's a no-brainer. (The titles in question are The One I Love and Wish, by the way.) But Someday's Dreamers? I'm surprised, because I never got the impression that it was ever a big hit, despite my love for it. It's likely that all three titles were part of a bundle deal, but what if it wasn't? This kinda reminds me of when Sentai Filmworks licensed rescued the first Someday's Dreamers anime a couple of years ago. I hoped that announcement meant that they would also license the second series (Someday's Dreamers II Sora, or Someday's Dreamers: Summer Sky as I would have preferred it to be called), and lo and behold, they did end up announcing the new season about six months later. So does this mean we may get the manga counterpart as well? *crosses fingers* I wouldn't mind if it was just digital, either, since I figured out how to run the Nook app on PC through an Android emulator called BlueStacks, so no more worrying about space on my iPod touch. (Whoo! I have a feeling I'm going to be buying a lot more manga digitally from now on.) It would be awesome just to get an official release in English, no matter the method, since as far as I know, only the first couple of chapters were ever scanlated.

What Kaleido Star Girl Are You?
What Kaleido Star Girl Are You?
Hosted By theOtaku.com: Anime

I came across that quiz while googling for possible new links for my Kaleido Star website and just had to take it! I always did think I was most like Mia, so I'd say it's pretty accurate. ^_^

Speaking of my websites, I'm mostly done updating the series specific sites (Yume no Kagami, Kaze no Hana, and Mirai no Tsubasa). There are a few things I want to add to Yume no Kagami, but I can save those for another time.

Finally, cold weather! I'm sitting here at my desk, drinking a steaming cup of hot chocolate, listening to Celine Dion's Christmas album, and contemplating wrapping presents today. I think I will. It just feels like a present-wrapping day!

Speaking of presents, I bought quite a few for myself during Right Stuf's 12 Days of Saving sale. ^_^ I still can't believe how much I saved! I only(!) spent about $300, but my savings added up to more like $550. That means I got everything for roughly a third of the combined retail price! Seriously, if you're an anime/manga fan (or need to find a gift for one), I definitely recommend checking it out. The sale ends this Friday, though, so don't wait too long.

So, what did I get?

Black Butler Season 2
El Cazador de la Bruja
Figure 17 *
Genshiken Season 2 *
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Cols. 1 & 2
Princess Resurrection Cols. 1 & 2 (They were only $9 each!)
Someday's Dreamers II Sora * (Squee! So looking forward to this!)
The Wallflower
Witchblade
Cross Game manga bundle (The entire series for just $62!)
Kimi ni Todoke Vol. 10 *

(Those marked with an asterix weren't actually a part of the holiday sale, but other than the Kimi ni Todoke volume, they were still a part of the usual weekly bargains. Actually got even better deals on some of those, especially on Figure 17. Thirty dollars for a $180 set? Yes, please!)

16. A manga/an anime that isn't licensed but SHOULD be.

Oh, now here's an easy question: Ginban Kaleidoscope! I want this anime to be licensed so, so much, but I doubt it'll ever happen. It's kinda old (from around 2005 or 2006, I think), and it's a sports (figure skating) anime, which doesn't seem to do very well over here for some reason. Then again, I never thought the second season of Someday's Dreamers would ever make it here either, yet somehow it finally got picked up (thank you, Sentai Filmworks!), so maybe I shouldn't abandon all hope for GK. (Oh, that reminds me that the second season of Story of Saiunkoku would also be a nice licensing pick as well.)

As for manga, my top choice would probably be Naoko Takeuchi's The Cherry Project, which also happens to be about a figure skater. Hey, Codename: Sailor V and the reprint of Sailor Moon are both big hits, so why not license another one of Takeuchi's titles, even if it is old and features a sport? Second choice goes to Kagen no Tsuki by Ai Yazawa of NANA and Paradise Kiss fame. I still don't understand why it hasn't been licensed, especially since the live-action movie based on it was. It's only three volumes long and by a fairly popular mangaka, so it doesn't seem like much of a risk to me. My third pick is either Appare Jipangu or Epotoransu! Mai, both by my favorite mangaka Yuu Watase. The majority of her series have made it over here, but not these two. Again, they're both short -- three and two volumes, respectively -- and by a popular artist, so why not, Viz?  (Okay, Epotoransu! Mai isn't all that great, admittedly, but one of the male love interests is a Sailor Moon otaku, and that's cool. :P And it's still pretty decent, just not as amazing as some of her other series.)

From ANN: Sentai Filmworks Adds Someday's Dreamers II Sora TV Anime

It's finally been confirmed! *dances* I knew they had to have this when they announced they had relicensed the first Someday's Dreamers series a couple of months ago. Kind of a clunky English title -- I would have preferred Someday's Dreamers: Summer Sky if they had to use "Someday's Dreamers" to connect it to the first series -- but oh, well. That's just a minor thing. I'll definitely be picking it up when it comes out!

Eek, I'm almost as excited about this as I was about the Sailor Moon manga relicense! Now, if someone would just pick up Ginban Kaleidoscope...but I know that'll never happen.

Moving on, it's time for another fun 30 Day meme. It's been a while since I did one of these! (Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] royalbk, with some minor changes. The original was mostly about manga, but I thought it would be more fun to do both.)

01. Your very first manga/anime

The first anime I ever saw (although I didn't know it was anime at the time) was a movie called The Little Mermaid. (Based on the original story, not the Disney version.) I remember it was the first video we ever bought when we got our first VCR, and I actually still have it. Sailor Moon, however, was both my first anime series and manga series (along with the other series that were published in Mixxzine: Magic Knight Rayearth, Parasyte, and....Ice Blade, I think). It was actually the similarities between Nephrite's death and the mermaid's death -- they both dissolved into bubbles -- that made me realize The Little Mermaid was an anime.

Days To Come )

Sentai Filmworks has re-licensed one of my favorite series, Someday's Dreamers. While that bit of news isn't particularly exciting to me, since I already own the series -- although it would be great if more people discovered it this time around! -- the note that the company "can neither confirm or deny" that it also has the license for the second series has got me definitely intrigued. Oh, man, that would be so awesome if they did! And, personally, I don't see a real point in rereleasing the first series unless they're trying to drum up interest in the second, so my gut is telling me they probably do. Oh, please, please let it be true!

(And if somebody would license the manga as well, that would just be icing on cake, although that might be too much to hope for with Tokyopop -- who put out the other two manga series -- gone. Oh, well, a girl can dream!)

Kerry's thread at .moon about giving away some of her story ideas gave me the inspiration to make this post -- which I hope to make a point of updating regularly -- listing all the story ideas I've had (and can remember). Unlike Kerry's thread, this really isn't about giving away fic ideas, but if something does catch your eye and it's marked as abandoned/unmarked, then feel free to take. Just leave me a note so I can read it when it's finished. ^_^ (Credit is nice, but not really necessary for most of these ideas, since they're so generic in the first place. You can probably even take an idea I'm actually working on and come up with a completely different plot than mine if you really want.)

If you leave a comment on this post, I will give you five subjects with which I associate you. You may then take those five subjects, post this meme in your LJ, and elaborate on what you have posted.

From

[personal profile] samuraiter

Fruits Basket - One of my all-time favorite anime/manga. It's reallyi ncredible how Takaya Natsuki was able to create such a large cast, and yet she managed to give most of them heaps of character development. (Some were a little left out in the cold, like Ritsu, but that's just being picky.) It was also great to have a romantic story in which you honestly didn't know who the heroine would pick until halfway in, which made me that much happier when they guy I prefered won Tohru's heart. (Especially since for a while, I really thought the story was leading toward the other.) I can't believe it's almost over (in the English translation)! *sniffles*

Grey's Anatomy - It's funny, because everybody who knows me well knows that I can't stand anything gross involving blood and guts and all that kind of stuff. It's gotten to the point that my parents and sister will warn me before they start talking about things like that, so I can stick my fingers in my ears and sing nonsense to myself until it's all over. (I'm so mature.) Yet, I love this show. Granted, I do usually cover my eyes during the surgeries, but still... It's just great fun. (And Patrick Dempsey is very easy on the eyes, even if his character is kind of a jerk.)

Sailor Moon - My gateway drug into the world of anime and manga. Technically not my first exposure to anime -- that honor belongs to an anime version of "The Little Mermaid" that I didn't realize was anime until after I watched SM -- but I mostly consider it as much. And I still love it as much as I did all those those years ago when I first saw the dub on TV. It's a love affair that will never, never end, even if it's no longer my favorite anime/manga anymore. After all, it's the fandom that first got me into fanfiction. ^_^

Sims - Ah, my obsession of obsessions of the moment, even when I'm not allowing myself to play. It's really become an addiction, guys. -_- It's so crazy. I mean, I was known to get a little obsessed with Sims 1 back in the day (until my game started getting buggy and it became annoying to play), but with Sims 2, it's almost like a twenty-four hour thing. If I'm not doing something Sims related, then you can be pretty sure I'm at least thinking of it. *laughs* Totally sucks for my writing, though. I wish I could get back into being this involved in fanfiction.

Someday's Dreamers - So, so sad that this little slice of life/magical girl -- two of my favorite genres -- gem never really caught on here in the States. Even sadder that it's very unlikely that the second anime series and third manga series will ever be licensed in English. (I can't even find scanlations of the manga past the first couple of chapters.) People just don't know what they're missing, unfortunately. :(

heavenly_pearl: (Default)
Post the first line from your 25 most recent fanfics and try to find a pattern. (Note: I’m completely disregarding the Dream Lovers series, which is the series of Chibi-Usa/Helios vignettes I wrote for sm_monthly. If I had, those vignettes themselves would have almost taken up the twenty-five spots. *laughs* I’m also only going with stories posted at FF.net, since that’s the easiest way to see which are the twenty-five most recent, even if I do have some more recent stuff posted else where.)

25 First Lines )

Well, the totally obvious pattern is that I apparently love starting stories with a piece of dialogue. The unapparent pattern, since the meme was only to post the first line and not the first paragraph, is that most of my first lines are also the complete first paragraphs. Seriously, pretty much half of these lines are first paragraphs. *laughs* What else is there? Well, it looks like three of them start with the words, “It was”. I suppose you could call that a small pattern. Oh, and most of them are in third person. Hmm, that’s really all I can see.

For the last month or so, I've been trying to stream episodes of Ginban Kaleidoscope and Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora (the new Someday's Dreamers series). I had been using a site called CrunchyRoll, which worked fine for a while, but then I started having problems with the episodes not buffering all the way. After spending all last week trying to watch Ep. 5 of Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora and only getting as far as the opening song before it conked out, I decided to try YouTube.

Yesterday, it was great. I managed to watch the first part (of three) of the episode with no problems at all.

Today, when trying to watch the second part? You got it: buffering problems yet again! And the workaround they suggested doesn't fix it.

ARG!

*tears out hair*

Oh, why must I be stuck with dial-up? This is driving me insane! I just want to watch the stupid episode; is that too much to ask?
heavenly_pearl: (Default)

It's been a good day so far. ^_^ Not only did the troublesome Right Stuf order finally come in, but I just finished watching the first episode of Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto - Natsu no Sora, otherwise known as Someday's Dreamers: Summer Sky, and it was just as wonderful as I thought it would be! (Official opinion on the animation style: It definitely looks better in motion. I rather like it. ^_^)

I'm so glad somebody suggested I try streaming instead of downloading episodes (which would have taken forever on my computer). Streaming actually didn't take as long as I thought, just about five hours for a twenty-five minute episode, which isn't bad at all. That's about as long as it takes to download a volume of manga scanlations (depending on size), so it's certainly doable without my parents getting on my case about tying up the phone line all day.

Man, I'm so psyched! Not only can I watch SD:SS as it is being released in Japan, but I can also finally watch Ginban Kaleidoscope and the two Kaleido Star OAVs that weren't licensed here in the States. *dances*

I'M SO HAAAAAAAAAAAPPYYYYYYYYY!!!!

*glomps everybody reading this entry*

Okay, that's enough of me being annoying. ^_~ I've got new manga to read and episodes to watch!

heavenly_pearl: (Default)
Why do I keep getting Kaleido Star plot bunnies when I'm still struggling with this multi-part I'm working on? So annoying. Hop away little plot bunnies; I don't need to be tempted to work on something else at the moment.

In other news, I found out that Tokyopop has licensed two of Takaya Natsuki's -- she's the mangaka of Fruits Basket -- previous works, Phantom Dream and Tsubasa: Those With Wings. I've actually known about the Phantom Dream licensing for a while now, and have been greatly looking forward to it, but I had no idea about Tsubasa: Those With Wings until yesterday. Yay! You know both of them are definitely going on my "to buy" list, especially since they're both so short. PD is five volumes, I believe, and T:TWW is technically six volumes, but Tokyopop is releasing it in three double-volume books.

Also, I found scanlations of the first two chapters of the new Someday's Dreamers manga series. I haven't properly read them yet, but from what I've scanned through, it looks pretty interesting. I've also been trying to follow the new anime on various blogs (since I don't have the ability to download fansubs on this old, slow-as-molasses computer). The animation style seems to be pretty polarizing among the people who've watched it: some love it, some (probably a majority) hate it. (For some examples of the style, check out this blog and this one.) Me? I think I probably need to see the actual show before forming a real opinion on the matter. You can't really tell how it all works as a whole by just looking a screenshots, you know? Nevertheless, I still hope it gets licensed someday!
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
So, I didn't mention it, but I did finish my Princess Tutu fic a couple of days ago. I don't really care for the ending, but since I've pretty much set on posting each scene as a separate chapter, that's okay. I have time to figure out how to fix it. At least it is finished. I actually finished something over 2,000 words for the first time in a long time! Yay!

Also worked a little bit on the Shigure/Mayuko fic I'm writing for [profile] 15pairings, but I just can't seem to figure out how to end it. :( It's difficult to write a romantic story about two people who basically got together because one is in love with somebody else and the other was just bored (and also in love with somebody else), but at least the theme is "why bother". *laughs*

Now I'm working on Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound Vol. 5 manga summaries for my website. Just one more to go, and I will be officially finished with all the website summaries -- at least until when/if the new series is licensed or I can find scanlations.

All in all, I guess you could say I've been fairly productive this week. Not as much as I would like, granted, but maybe a change is coming.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
My Right Stuf order came in today! Yay! I didn't think it would, since when I checked the tracking, it said the package was still in Dallas, but I guess they just forgot to update it for a couple of days.

Of course, I had to read all the new manga right away. ^_^

Some random thoughts:

Legend of Chun Hyang - I kind of wish I had done a little more research on this before I ordered it. I was under the impression that it was a one-shot manga, but while there is only one volume out, it turns out that it was a series that CLAMP had dropped. Such a shame, too. The artwork is gorgeous, and I was really starting to get into the story. Chun Hyang and Mong Ryong had the potential to become one of CLAMP's most dynamic couples. *sigh* I wonder why it was even released in English. I mean, I know anything with the CLAMP name on it is bound to sell -- heck, that's how they got me *laughs* -- but it just seems cruel to put out an incomplete series with only two chapters and a side story that has little hope of ever being continued (unlike Legal Drug and X, which are just on indefinite hiatus).

Oh, well. I guess it's good that there's only one volume, at least. I would have been mad if I had bought a bunch of volumes, only to discover it would never be finished. But one volume isn't much of a waste, and the first chapter does work pretty well as a standalone story. I'll just have to hope against hope that CLAMP decides to resurrect it someday.

The One I Love - The other CLAMP one-shot I got, which is a true one-shot consisting of twelve different stories, accompanied by essays explaining the inspiration behind the stories. Really sweet. That's really all I have to say about it. ^_^

Fruits Basket Vol. 19

Spoilers! )

Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound Vol. 5 (last volume)

Spoilers )

Oh, I want to read the new series now! *laughs* And I'm still hoping that this series will someday be animated. Please?
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
So, thanks to [profile] lunaludusand [profile] mythopoet_blue's input -- thanks, guys! -- I decided that instead of getting the nine episode Fushigi Yugi OAV (which was a little too expensive for the $100 Visa gift card I used anyway), my money would be better spent on other things (namely manga).

I ordered:

Fullmetal Alchemist Boxset 3
Fullmetal Alchemist Boxset 4
Fruits Basket Vol. 19
Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound Vol. 5
Legend of Chun Hyang manga
The One I Love manga
Marriage DVD
Full Metal Panic Ani-Mini DVD

Yeah, I know I said I wouldn't start any new manga series until after I finished collecting Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound (which I'm finishing with this order), Absolute Boyfriend, and Yurara, but The One I Love and Legend of Chun Hyang are both one-shots, so I say that they don't really count. :P (Besides, they're CLAMP!) As for the last two, Marriage is a single-disc anime title that I've been eyeing for a while, since the summary sounded interesting and the price was right (only nine dollars, so even if it sucks, it's not big deal), while I mainly just got the ani-mini DVD because it was cheap ($.99) and I had a little over a dollar left on the card. *laughs*

heavenly_pearl: (Default)

First, a list requested by an anonymous poster for the Top 5 meme.

By the way, if anybody else wants to give me a topic of a Top 5 list, feel free to still comment. I love making these kinds of lists. ^_^

Now, onto the real topic of this entry. I was lurking at the AnimeonDVD forums when I came across an exciting announcement: Not only has yet another Someday's Dreamers manga series (subtitled Natsu no Sora)  just begun publication in Shonen Ace, it's going to be turned into an anime and  a live-action movie! Wahoo! *crosses fingers that all three will one day be licensed here*

This news does make me wonder why they never animated Spellbound, though. :( It would have made a nice 26 episode romantic drama, IMO. Oh, well, maybe if the new series does well, they'll go back and turn Spellbound into an anime.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
Yes, I did end up splurging again on manga, just like I predicted. *laughs* But it was a guilt free splurge. My parents' tax refund came in, so Mom gave me and my sister fifty dollars to spend today at the mall. That meant I didn't have to dip into my savings after all. Yay!

The loot:

Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden Vol. 6
NANA Vol. 9
Suppli Vol. 2
xxxHolic Vol. 11
Yurara Vol. 4

That was pretty much everything on my list, except for the one volume I really wanted: the last Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound. :( Oh, well, I'll get it eventually.

heavenly_pearl: (Default)

Okay, so two of the manga series I've been reading are close to wrapping up: Absolute Boyfriend and Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound. Once I get in the volumes I recently ordered from Right Stuf, I'll only have to buy one more volume each for both of them, so I decided it would be okay to start collecting a couple of new short series -- the keyword being short. I even went to AnimeonDVD.com's manga comparison chart (which shows how any volumes make up each series) and made out a list of possible series to buy so that when we went to Barnes & Noble today, I wouldn't accidentally pick out something with a lot of volumes. I just wanted something with seven volumes or less, that's all.

Well, I found one of the series I wanted, a josei manga called Suppli that sounded really interesting. However, there's only one volume out so far, and I'm not exactly the kind of person who can leave a bookstore with only one manga volume. *laughs* The other series I really wanted was Emma, but they didn't have it, nor any of the other series I was vaguely considering.

Then I saw it.

An Omnibus Edition of xxxHolic. Three volumes in one twelve dollar book.

Before, I wasn't all that interested in reading it, but I just couldn't pass up such a good deal.

And now I'm collecting yet another long, on-going series. I'm insane. -_-;

Omnibus Editions are evil.

But oh, so good.

Also, it sucks that when we got home from our shopping and checked the mail, there were coupons for both Barnes & Noble and Best Buy (which we also went to, although I didn't buy anything). Why couldn't they come in yesterday? *sigh* Now they'll just go to waste.

heavenly_pearl: (Default)
*yawn*

Yes, I am up at 7:00. Mom didn't want to go to Midnight Mass last night, so we're going to the 8:00 mass this morning.

I want to go back to beeeedddd.

*yawns again*

Well, anyway,  Merry Christmas everybody!

We opened our presents last night like we do every year. It wasn't quite as bad a haul as I thought it would be, considering. I thought since Mom knew she wouldn't be able to spend a lot of money this year, she would get lots of silly, cheap gifts that we didn't really want just so that we would still get a lot of stuff, but really the only useless gift I got was yet another journal. (She gets me one practically every year, even thought I only really use them to write down computer passwords and the occasional story idea. Oh, well. At least it's cute.)

Here's the rundown:

Gifts )

I think that's about it. I'll edit this later when we get home from church.

EDIT: Okay, we're back.

Amusing little anecdote about Laura's gift: While she was here for Thanksgiving, Laura kept pestering me and Mom about what we wanted for Christmas because she didn't want to take the easy way out and give us gift cards. Mom gave her a list of movies she wanted, but I couldn't think of anything at the time. A few days later, though, I sent her an email with a short list of things she could choose from: Princess Tutu boxset, Diamond Daydreams boxset, or Blades of Glory. As it turned out, she had already gotten me Blades of Glory for my birthday gift (which I finally got last Sunday, almost two months after the fact). However, when it came to our Christmas gifts, what did she give me and Mom?

Gift cards. *laughs*

Granted, she did originally get Mom a couple of movies, but she had to take them back because Mom went ahead and bought them for herself, and she was planning to get me one of the boxsets I wanted, but she lost my email, but still, I thought that was pretty funny, especially since the one person she was planning to give a gift card to -- Daddy, who is horrible to shop for -- actually got a movie and coffee mug.

As for what I ordered with the $50 gift card, Right Stuf had an awesome sale on a Rumbling Hearts bundle that I couldn't pass up. Originally it was $90, but I got it for $20! O.o (I really wish I held off on the first FMA boxset. They had a sale on that, too.) I also got the FMA movie and the next volumes of Absolute Boyfriend, NANA, and Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound.
