Happy belated Thanksgiving!

It's that time again, so if you've moved since last year or want to be added to my holiday card list, comment or message me with your address. Comments on this post will be screened.

Also, if you're an anime fan (or have one on your list), I recommend checking out the Black Friday sale at Sentai Filmworks's website. Super cheap prices! I ordered DVD sets of Another, Allison & Lillia, Bodacious Space Pirates, Flying Witch, Kids on the Slope, and Chivalry of a Failed Knight , all for about $80!

Kitty!

My mom just brought home the sweetest gray tabby!

Total surprise. Mom was a work, and a customer found an abandoned cat. She couldn't take it home with her, though, because her son is allergic, so she asked if anybody in the pharmacy would be willing to take it. As it so happens, over Thanksgiving, Mom mentioned that she was thinking about getting me a cat for Christmas -- talk about fate! So of course she volunteered and took a short break to drop it off at home.

Oh, man, this cat is so unbelievably CUTE! I'm already in love. She's -- Mom was calling it a "he", but it looks female to me -- exploring the house right now, but she keeps coming back over to me every few minutes, wanting me to pet and kiss her. *melts into a puddle of goo* And I don't think she's stopped purring yet! I wish our digital camera worked... This cuteness demands to be shared.

Now I have to think of a name. When Mom first mentioned the possibility of a cat for Christmas, I thought Angel would be rather appropriate, and it certainly does suit her. (Except for when she stepped on the computer and accidentally turned it off when I was in the middle of writing this entry, scaring the crap out of me... *laughs* Oh, well, she's so cute, I forgive her!) But she also seems like a Daphne to me, for some reason (presuming she is a girl). Luna could also work. Hmm, I'll have to think about it.

In other news, I'm a bit annoyed because I ordered Christmas presents for my mother and brother-in-law from Amazon a couple of days ago, but it seems like my brother-in-law's gift is now on backorder and probably won't be delivered in time for Christmas. They said there was still one left in stock when I ordered it... I guess someone was just a little faster, though. *sigh* Now I don't know what to do. I guess print out a picture and stuff it inside a card, explaining that he'll get it eventually? (I don't want to cancel it and get him something else; it was hard enough shopping for him in the first place.)

Oh, and last week's Andrea Bocelli concert? A-MAZ-ING. Best birthday present EVER.

Well, dinner at my sister's yesterday went well, but today was kind of a disaster when Mom decided to cook a second, smaller Thanksgiving dinner after we got back. We're still not sure exactly what happened, but something apparently caught on fire in the oven. We're all fine, thank goodness; it was just a small fire, easily put out. The rolls and the stuffing, however...not so much. And now there are ashes everywhere. Seriously, I keep washing my hands, only to find them covered in soot again not more than two minutes later. There's no point in even trying to take a bath until things have been cleaned up, although I would love one right about now. Gah, I never knew how far ashes could travel! They've invaded the whole house.

So while everybody's shopping tomorrow, I have a feeling we'll be cleaning. Joy...

Wow, can you guys believe it's already the 22nd. It feels like Thanksgiving was, like, two minutes ago, and now there's only two days left until Christmas Eve (when my family opens presents). Where has the time gone?! Seriously.

Oh, right, I spent most of it playing Sims. *laughs*

But I've done very little of the things I usually do before Christmas. I've only listened to a couple of my many Christmas CDs (btw, got Sarah Brightman's yesterday -- fabulous!), watched only one Christmas movie, not counting the usual TV specials (my fave -- the remake of Miracle on 34th Street), haven't read the Snow Princess Kaguya manga side story or watched the Sailor Moon S movie (not to mention all the other anime Christmas episodes I usually watch), or read any Christmas fanfics. This isn't right. -_-

Well, I guess it's better late than never, huh? I think today I'll listen to Christmas music all day long, read the Snow Princess Kaguya story, and reread some Christmas fanfic classics -- namely Lianne and Amethist's Psychotic Sailor Moon Christmas Carols and [livejournal.com profile] sophiap 's As God is My Witness, I Thought Turkeys Could Fly...". Then tomorrow I can have an anime Christmas marathon.

Yeah, sounds like a plan.  I think that's what I'll do. ^_^

Short post, but I just wanted to wish everybody celebrating it a "Happy Thanksgiving" and remind you to sign up if you would like a holiday card from me. I bought tons of cards last year during the after Christmas sales, so I'd like to send out a bunch this year. ^_^ (Don't worry about reciprocating; I don't mind if I don't get one back.) The post is here.

*yawn*

Yes, I am up at 7:00. Mom didn't want to go to Midnight Mass last night, so we're going to the 8:00 mass this morning.

I want to go back to beeeedddd.

*yawns again*

Well, anyway,  Merry Christmas everybody!

We opened our presents last night like we do every year. It wasn't quite as bad a haul as I thought it would be, considering. I thought since Mom knew she wouldn't be able to spend a lot of money this year, she would get lots of silly, cheap gifts that we didn't really want just so that we would still get a lot of stuff, but really the only useless gift I got was yet another journal. (She gets me one practically every year, even thought I only really use them to write down computer passwords and the occasional story idea. Oh, well. At least it's cute.)

Here's the rundown:

Gifts )

I think that's about it. I'll edit this later when we get home from church.

EDIT: Okay, we're back.

Amusing little anecdote about Laura's gift: While she was here for Thanksgiving, Laura kept pestering me and Mom about what we wanted for Christmas because she didn't want to take the easy way out and give us gift cards. Mom gave her a list of movies she wanted, but I couldn't think of anything at the time. A few days later, though, I sent her an email with a short list of things she could choose from: Princess Tutu boxset, Diamond Daydreams boxset, or Blades of Glory. As it turned out, she had already gotten me Blades of Glory for my birthday gift (which I finally got last Sunday, almost two months after the fact). However, when it came to our Christmas gifts, what did she give me and Mom?

Gift cards. *laughs*

Granted, she did originally get Mom a couple of movies, but she had to take them back because Mom went ahead and bought them for herself, and she was planning to get me one of the boxsets I wanted, but she lost my email, but still, I thought that was pretty funny, especially since the one person she was planning to give a gift card to -- Daddy, who is horrible to shop for -- actually got a movie and coffee mug.

As for what I ordered with the $50 gift card, Right Stuf had an awesome sale on a Rumbling Hearts bundle that I couldn't pass up. Originally it was $90, but I got it for $20! O.o (I really wish I held off on the first FMA boxset. They had a sale on that, too.) I also got the FMA movie and the next volumes of Absolute Boyfriend, NANA, and Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound.

Two days after Thanksgiving, and I'm already finished with all of my Christmas shopping. Go me! I bought a nice shirt for my dad, a porcelain figurine for my mom that she's had her eye on for months, the Season 4 (and Season 2 for her birthday, which is also next month) Simpsons boxset for my sister, a cute coin purse with a frog on it and a small jewelry box for my best friend Crystle, this really cool-looking Spider-man web shooter thing for her older son Hunter, and a toy phone and car key set for her younger son Ethan. I think everybody will like their presents. ^_^

Plus, since Right Stuf is having a 30% off almost everything sale at the moment, I bought a few things for myself, since it doesn't look like there will be a lot of money for presents this year, what with the hospital bills and Mom being on leave and all. I ordered Vol. 15 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, the first boxset of Fullmetal Alchemist, and all three Paradise Kiss DVDs. To be honest, even with the 30% off, the ParaKiss DVDs were still more than I would have liked to have paid -- about $20 each -- but since it is a Geneon title, I figured I should go ahead and snap it up while I still had the chance.

Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pretty typical holiday here. Laura came home, we had the usual turkey dinner -- barbeque chicken and French fries for me, since I don't like the usual turkey dinner :P -- and we put up the Christmas tree. We are watching football for the first time, though. Laura's boyfriend Joe is a huge Cowboys fan -- he's from Dallas -- and even though he didn't come down with her, he wanted her to watch the Cowboys/Jets game while she was here. *snores*

Ah, well. At least I have video games to save me from my boredom.

Hope everybody is having a nice holiday!

I don't know what it is, but, lately, I keep managing to buy things on sale without actually realizing that they were on sale. ^_^ Last Friday, Mom and I went to Wal-mart to get stuff for Thanksgiving dinner, and I decided to spend the thirty dollars I (finally) got for my birthday to buy the new Celine Dion CD and Josh Groban's Christmas album (both which are fabulous, by the way). They were both originally around $14, but when I got up to the register, I found out the Celine CD was actually on sale for $10. Then, today when we went back to Wal-mart after church, I decided to get a couple of cheap video games for my GBA: Castlevania (NES Classic) and a Pac-man cartridge with four different Pac-man games. Those were priced as being $15, which I already thought was a good deal, but again when they rung up, they were on sale for ten.

Man, I hope this streak lasts when I start buying Christmas presents! *laughs*

The tree is up, and it's blue and silver.

*sigh*

I suppose it is pretty enough, but it also looks kind of depressing. It's like the tree somehow knows this is going to be a sucky Christmas because of all our recent money problems. It doesn't help that Mom hasn't put up any other Christmas decorations beside the tree. Usually our walls are covered with all our elementary school Christmas crafts, the manger's under the tree, the village is out, and our trailer is covered with lights, but I guess Mom decided it wasn't worth the effort this year. I can't say I really blame her -- it's not like we'll have any company, and Laura will probably only come down for a few days -- but still, it's sad.

I wonder if Laura even knows about the blue Christmas tree yet, since she left before Mom put it up. I didn't even know about it myself until Mom snuck out to Wal-mart on Thanksgiving and bought the decorations. I have a feeling Laura is going to be really disappointed when she does hear about it. She's always loved Christmas trees, and she might not even get to put one up in her apartment because her roommate/landlord (Lacy's family owns the condo) is Jewish and isn't too keen on the idea. Actually, that's not true. Lacy did eventually say that she could put up a tree if she decorated it in Hannukah colors (blue and white, ironically), so to come home to find the exact kind of tree she didn't want will probably be kind of a letdown.

Well, Laura just left to go back to Nacogdoches. She originally planned to stay until tomorrow, but I guess she thought she should go home early to go work on something for one of her classes. Our A: drive doesn't work anymore, so she couldn't do any work here. (Plus, it has to be done in Word, which we don't have on this computer anyway.)

I wish she could have stayed, though, because I was hoping that we could go to the mall tomorrow and take advantage of the post-Thanksgiving sales. I've been dying to go for weeks so I could buy some more manga, but oh, well. I've been rereading the beginning volumes of Fushigi Yugi, which I haven't read for the longest time, so it almost feels like I'm reading something new. ^_^ I forgot how much I like Miaka's brother Keisuke. I need to add him to my harem.

Dinner was very good. We had turkey, but being the picky eater I am, I got barbeque chicken instead, along with French fries, deviled eggs, and rolls. Yum. ^_^ And for dessert, there was a choice between lemon, chocolate, and pecan pies. I had chocolate, but I'll probably get some pecan later if there's any left. *crosses fingers*

Otherwise, today's been pretty boring. We'll be putting up the Christmas tree tonight, but since Laura doesn't live here anymore, we're just putting up my little 3-footer. *sigh* I'm going to miss our big pretty tree.

Oh, yes, I'm procrastinating.

Big time.

If nothing comes to me by the end of today's afternoon writing session, I'm giving up for the week and going to work on my websites or something. Maybe once Thanksgiving's over, Helios-muse will be more willing to work.

For now, some more quiz results:

No, I haven't broken through my writer's block yet, unfortunately. -_-;

But I have come up with an idea that I hope will perk up some of the writers over at ASMR.

What is it, you ask?

<.<

>.>

Not telling. :P

Y'all will find out what it is on Thanksgiving, or the day afterwards at the latest, so be on the look out for a post by me in "Writer's Headquarters."

I'm so cruel... Hehe.

Grr

You know, I really do think Helios-muse decided to take off early for Thanksgiving. Writing's going HORRIBLY. Want to know how much I wrote today?

Oh, maybe two or three sentences.

Gah!

I've never had a case of writer's block so bad. It's so frustrating! And I've been rereading the stuff I've written so far and it's so terrible! It's almost so bad that I've seriously been considering retiring from SM fanfics altogether. It's not like anybody cares about the fandom anymore... But I'm too stubborn to give up. *sigh*

I just need to find some confidence. That's what I need. If I can find that again, I'm sure everything will be okay.

In other news, since writing's going so badly, I've been working on avies. They're posted in my MJ if anybody's interested.

My arm's been sore for the past couple of days and I don't know why. I mean, yeah, I did slip on a magazine last week after getting some birthday cake -- what a mess that was -- but that was days ago and I felt fine. Why is it hurting now? It's so annoying because I can't even raise my arm without feeling pain. About as high I can go is the height needed to type.

And speaking of typing, why can't I get back into the swing of things for ATR? I don't think I've even written a page worth of stuff this week. Helios-muse must be taking an extended birthday vacation, or else he's skipping out way early for the Thanksgiving holidays.

Grr.

Sometimes I think I need to fire that muse, but oh, the prettiness...
