Yuri!!! On Ice Anime Gets Brand New Film

YAAAAAAAS!

I was hoping for a second season, but a movie is almost as good. (And doesn't necessarily rule out a second season, either, especially if it does well.) The article says it's going to be all new material, too, not one of those recap movies, so that's great. I wonder if it might be focused on the Olympics? The timing would be right, with the 2018 Olympics just months away.

- Just spent a somewhat ridiculous amount of money on two pieces of Pegasus merchandise (one especially rare) yesterday on eBay. I'm going to wait until they come in to tell you what they are, though. I plan to write a big post about my latest purchases. Some of them are really cool!

- Hulu Ends Free Streaming as Yahoo Launches Own Service With Anime - Well, this sucks. I didn't watch a whole lot of anime on Hulu, but I did watch some, and the Yahoo View service doesn't seem to have much so far. At the very least, it doesn't look like they have Pandora Hearts, which I was in the middle of watching on Hulu. *sigh* Crunchyroll does have it, but only the first six episodes are available to free members. May have to end up signing up for a free trial at either Hulu or Crunchyroll in order to at least finish it.

- Watching the Olympics is really making me want to watch Free! again. Actually, I think there's either a movie or an OAV I never watched... I should see if I can find that somewhere.

I've never been a fan of Evgeny Plushenko, but this just takes the cake.

Olympics!

The Winter Olympics start today -- so, so, so EXCITED!

And I love that they've added a team figure skating event this year. More skating to watch! I won't get to actually see the competition until NBC's primetime coverage since we don't have cable (boo!), but I have my eye on the live results being posted over at http://www.sochi2014.com/. Go Team USA! (Especially Jeremy Abbott and the pair team of Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir who are skating their short programs today for the team event.)

Talking about the live results, so don't click if you don't want to be spoiled! )

How did I get sucked into watching the Summer Olympics? I was only going to watch the opening ceremony. I don't care about the summer events; I prefer the winter events. Well, okay, there was a brief time when I was younger when I had a mild interest in gymnastics, but it didn't stick for very long. I haven't watched a competition in years. Yet here I am, glued to the TV set every night to watch gymnastics and swimming! I'm blaming my brother-in-law. :P When we visited last weekend, practically all we did was watch the Olympics since my sister was so busy with her schoolwork.

Oh, well.

I'll get back to the 30 Day meme tomorrow, but for today, I'm taking a break to do another meme that I snagged from s[livejournal.com profile] samuraiter

The figure skating World Championships are being held this week in Italy. I haven't said anything about them because I figured nobody would be interested, but I just have to post about this:

Olympic gold medalist Kim Yu-na is in seventh place after the short program.

Seventh place, people. I feel like I'm in an episode of the Twilight Zone or something. That's just...unfathomable, especially considering the kinds of mistakes she made in her short program. Mistakes on jumps, sure -- even the best skaters in the world have off-days with their jumps, and that was the case with Kim's triple flip, which got downgraded. But then she proceeded to mess up on a layback spin and a spiral sequence, as well. That spiral sequence has got to be the most shocking, because I don't thing I've ever seen a skater mess up so blatantly on a spiral before. It was the weirdest thing. I'm still trying to process it. I wouldn't completely count her out just yet for another world title if she can turn things around and skate cleanly in the free -- she's capable of getting humongous scores, enough to possibly make up the ten point deficit she has after the short -- but, wow, it'll be tough if she doesn't get her act together.

Her fall from the top does open the door for American Mirai Nagasu, though, who is currently in first after an incredible short program. (Mao Asada, the Olympic silver medalist is in second after getting downgraded on her triple axel combination, and bronze medalist Joannie Rochette decided not to compete to deal with the grief of her mother's unexpected death during the Games.) I have my fingers crossed for her and the other American, Racheal Flatt, who is in sixth after just doing a triple/double combo instead of her usual triple/triple. It would be great if both of them made the podium.

Don't wanna know who won? Don't click! )
Argh, it's over! I can't believe it! Well, there's still the exhibition to look forward to, but I'll miss the excitement of competition -- at least until Worlds. What a great, great Olympics it has been in the skating events!
heavenly_pearl: (Default)

Seriously, where is it? I've been waiting all day for it. Granted, the last I heard, it was supposed to really start in earnest right about now, but not even a snowflake in sight yet. *pouts* I WANT IT TO SNOOOOOOOOOW!

In other news, great ladies' short program!

Results under the cut )
Can't wait for Thursday!

Incredible. Simply incredible.

You know the drill -- Results! )

Ladies' short program is tomorrow night, meaning that the skating competition is almost over. *sigh* I'm not sure what I'll do with myself once it is, I've been so wrapped up in it. Is there life outside of skating? I don't remember it...

*laughs*

No, actually, I'm not that far gone. In fact, just watched the news and they're predicting SNOW tomorrow. Not a lot, mind you, but still! If it does, that'll be twice in one season; that never happens!

So crossing my fingers for that, and for Mirai Nagasu and Racheal Flatt to do well in their short programs tomorrow night. Go USA!

Original Dance Results )
Really looking forward to tomorrow night. *crosses fingers*

You may have noticed that I didn't post anything last night about the beginning round of ice dance. That's because it was the compulsory dance, where everybody has to dance the same exact steps to the same exact music, with very little room for originality. Not exactly thrilling viewing, you know? The Olympics is the only time they even bother showing the compulsory dance on TV, but it was still kind of interesting to watch, since you could tell who the better dancers were.

Among the better dancers are my two favorites, the American teams of Tanith Belbin/Benjamin Agosto and Meryl Davis/Charlie White. Belbin/Agosto placed 4th, while Davis/White were third, a very good start to put them in medal contention. In fact, both teams are favorites for gold, which would be a first for an American ice dance team. I can't decide who I want to win it more! Belbin/Agosto won the silver at the last Olympics and have been my favorite team for years, but Davis/White have the better original dance and free dance programs. Seriously, if you don't follow skating outside of the Olympics, you'll be in for a treat tomorrow and Monday night. Their Indian folk original dance is, hands down, one of the coolest skating programs EVER, no matter the discipline, and their free dance to "Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera (incidentally, my absolute favorite song in the world, bar none) is equally as wonderful. Compared to them, Belbin/Agosto's Maldavian folk original dance and religious-themed free dance are a bit lacking (although still very good!). Davis/White also won the national title over Belbin/Agosto, so momentum is definitely on their side. I guess Belbin/Agosto are sentimental favorites for me, but I think Davis/White have the better shot at the gold. I'll be happy either way. Heck, if both teams stand on the podium, no matter the medal color, that would be fantastic! (Still want at least one of them to get that gold, though...)

I had to do this [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 :

Five Olympics sports you would like to see characters from your fandom(s) participate in.

Going to go with all Sailor Moon characters, since it's really easy to choose.

1. Makoto Kino - Figure skating, of course! (Love, love, love that episode!) Although there's really a lot of events she would probably do well in...
2. Rei Hino - Two picks for her: archery and women's downhill skiing. (based on the ski episode)
3. Ami Mizuno and Michiru Kaioh - Obviously, the swimming events.
4. Minako Aino - Two picks for her, too: gymnastics and beach volleyball.
5. Haruka Tenoh - Running events, duh. Though, like Makoto, I could see her competing in a lot of different events

There's a lot I want to say about tonight's men's free skate, but I'm too emotionally exhausted to put my thoughts into coherent words. Seriously, my heart is still pounding!

So all I will say is this:

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
heavenly_pearl: (Default)

Oh, wow, that was an exciting night of skating! There were some incredible performances and some heartbreaking disappointments. This is what the Olympics is all about!

Warning: Results and squeeing! )
In non-skating news, I think I've developed a little crush on snowboarder Shaun White. >.< He's so cute, with that long, curly red hair! And he seems like a really cool guy to hang around. I wasn't really planning on watching tomorrow night since skating's not going to be on, but I may just change my mind to watch his event. Depends if Mom and I go to Ash Wednesday Mass, I guess.

To wrap things up, GO EVAN!

Can it be Thursday yet?
heavenly_pearl: (Default)

The pairs competition concluded tonight with the free program. It wasn't quite the night of great skating I was hoping for, but, admittedly, that's kind of unrealistic for the pairs event. There's almost always tons of mistakes in pairs' free programs. For me, it tends to be surprising when a pair does skate cleanly.

Talking about results )
Tomorrow is the men's short program. So, so excited! Can't even tell you. The men's competition is going to be amazing if everybody skates well. My definite favorite is Evan Lysacek, so I hope he does well. ^_^
