Now, fanfiction reviews! I answered three different year-end review questionnaires on my Tumblr, so I'm just going to link to them instead of copy and pasting. This entry is already getting long enough!

My review of the fall anime season and my choices for the Top Ten Anime of 2019 will be posted sometime in the next few days...hopefully.

Happy belated Thanksgiving!

It's that time again, so if you've moved since last year or want to be added to my holiday card list, comment or message me with your address. Comments on this post will be screened.

Also, if you're an anime fan (or have one on your list), I recommend checking out the Black Friday sale at Sentai Filmworks's website. Super cheap prices! I ordered DVD sets of Another, Allison & Lillia, Bodacious Space Pirates, Flying Witch, Kids on the Slope, and Chivalry of a Failed Knight , all for about $80!

I still have one more episode of Sound Euphonium to watch, and Classicaloid and March comes in like a lion are continuing into next season, but I think I've seen enough to give my opinion of the shows I watched this season:

Yuri On Ice - No surprise that this takes the top spot! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! It wasn't totally perfect -- twelve episodes wasn't enough time to really develop a lot of the characters, and despite paying lip-service to the scoring system, the scores were basically made up and unrealistic(Yuri would have almost certainly won Cup of China and the Grand Prix Final in reality)-- but it was still pretty amazing. I especially loved that three real-life skaters (Takeshi Honda, Nobunari Oda, and Stephane Lambiel) had voiceover cameos. And it seems very possible that we may be getting another season (or at least some OVAs), so YAY!

Classicaloid - I'm surprised I like this so much, but it is just so. much. freaking. fun! I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a music-themed mansion with a bunch of famous composers with mysterious Muzik powers? Well, besides poor Kanae... Okay, so maybe not, but still, her pain is the viewers' gain. (The modern remakes of classic pieces, though, can be a bit hit or miss.)

Sound Euphonium - Not quite as amazing as the first season, but still very good. I felt the first half was kinda weak, focusing on characters I did not care a bit about and a problem that would have been resolved a whole lot faster if the people involved would have just talked to each other. The second half, however, was great, especially since I'm a big Asuka fan. Also, the mid-season performance was just incredible.

Magic-kyn Renaissance - This was so...sparkly! And it was great to watch a reverse-harem show where the main heroine actually had some personality and you could see why all the boys fell in love with her.My one minor complaint is that they made a big deal in the first episode about the two best students being named Prince and Princess Artista, yet that never happened? The only prince and princess that were chosen were roles in a play, so that was kind of strange that they seemed to forget about that.Maybe another season is planned? I don't know.

Izetta: The Last Witch - A lot of people seemed to dislike this show for some reason, but I liked it just fine. Princess Fine, in particular, was a pretty awesome charcter.

March comes in like a lion - I would say this show is good, but uneven. It doesn't help that the shogi parts are really boring since it's impossible for somebody who doesn't know Japanese to understand what is going on in the game (although I appreciate the adorable cat song that attempts to explain the rules).

Miss Bernard said. - An amusing short. That's pretty much all I have to say about it.

Though not from the current season, I also finally got to watch the second season of The Heroic Legend of Arslan, which was very good. As for next season, I don't think any streaming announcements have been made yet, but if I can watch them, these are the shows that's I'm considering: second season of Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, Fuka, and Scum's Wish.

And since the year is ending, I'm starting something new and picking my ten Best Anime of 2016:

1. Yuri On Ice
2. Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
3. Sailor Moon Crystal Season 3
4. ReLIFE
5. Flying Witch
6. Classicaloid
7. Sound Euphonium
8. Dance With Devils
9. Sweetness & Lightning
10. Orange

It's the end of the spring anime season, and I actually really enjoyed everything I watched. Not a weak show in the bunch! In fact, I'm not even going to bother going into detailed reviews on the shows since they would all boil down to "I liked it!" Instead, I'll just rank them from favorite to least (but still pretty good).
Sailor Moon Crystal Season 3
Flying Witch
My Hero Academia
Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto
Ace Attorney (This seems to be on a lot of people's "worst" list, but as someone who never played the games, I found the story and characters enjoyable enough, in a ridiculous sort of way.)

As for this season... Gah, there's so much I want to check out! I may have to move some of these to the "will watch at a later date" list, but these are the shows I'd like to check out in alphabetical order:
91 Days
Ace Attorney (Continuing)
B-Project
Cheer Boys!! *
Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE! * (Continuing)
D.Gray-man Hallow * (Continuing - Funny story, but earlier this year, pretty much as soon as I finished watched the second half of the original series that was never licensed in fansubs, this sequel was announced. And now that second half has been officially licensed as well!)
Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance * (Continuing)
Momokuri
Orange
Planetarium *
ReLIFE
Sweetness & Lightning
* - Streamed by Funimation, which means I have to wait and see if they will mirror at Hulu or Youtube since I don't have a subscription with them, so those are the series I'll probably wait on if needed be.

Now that my hand has healed well enough that I can type (mostly) painfree, here are my thoughts on the past anime season. No real spoilers except the one that is marked.

Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju - This show was so GOOD! My definite favorite of the Winter season and possibly worthy of a 10/Masterpiece rating. (A second season was announced, so I won't call it just yet.) Seriously, though, if there was an Emmy for anime series, I'm pretty sure it would win in a landslide victory. I was particularly impressed with the voice work. Since the show revolves around rakugo -- Japanese storytelling -- the ability to be able to act several parts while the the characters do their routines is amazing.
Snow White With The Red Hair, Season Two - Just as charming as the first season! It's a bit of a shame that Shirayuki and Zen had to spend most of these episodes apart, but other than that, it was great. I particularly loved the development that Raj went though. Who knew he had it in him?

ERASED - The beginning of this show started out great, but it kinda lost steam in the second half, especially with the extremely generic "bad guys". Still better than the other mysteries I've watched lately, though.
(One thing that bothered me is that no explanation is ever given for Satoru's "Revival" (the ability to travel back in time to save someone's life) powers in a world that is otherwise completely mundane. You kind of just have to go with it.)

Nurse Witch Komugi R - I watched the original OAV of this a long time ago and apparently didn't care for it much based on the 5 I gave it, but I actually really liked this expanded revival series! I mean, it's nothing special, but it's still pretty fun to watch.

Sekko Boys - This eight-minute show was absolutely ridiculous...but in the best kind of way. I'm still wondering what the creators were smoking when they came up with the idea of a show about an idol group consisting of statue busts. It shouldn't work, yet somehow it does.

She and Her Cat -Everything Flows- - Another eight-minute show that was pretty good. Basically, if you've ever seen the original short film "She and Her Cat" and liked it, you'll probably enjoy these four episodes as well.

And I can't believe the Spring season has already started! Isn't there usually like a week or two break between seasons? I haven't even picked out all the shows I want to watch yet. Of course I'll be watching Sailor Moon Crystal Season 3, and I've watched the first episode of Ace Attorney, which was pretty amusing. (Always wanted to play one of the games, but I've never owned a console that plays any.) As for other shows... Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto, My Hero Academia, and Flying Witch sound like good bets, so those are going on the list. (Oh, and I'm also watching the dub of Dimension W, which is technically from the Winter season, on Toonami. Since it's a half-season behind, I decided not to include it with the other Winter shows.)
