- I think we've settled on Angel for the new kitty's name. Still not sure if it's a boy or a girl, but fortunately Angel works for both.

- Chapter 21 of Melting Ice has been posted at the usual places -- and one of the main pairing finally realizes their feelings for the other! (About time...)

- My brother-in-law's Christmas gift is on its way, thank goodness! Don't know what the hold up was. Now all I have left is to get a present for my sister. She was pretty specific about what she wanted: either a 13-inch non-flimsy laptop case (which seems to be impossible to find) or a purple sparkly or metallic case for the iPhone 5 she thinks her husband is giving her for her birthday next week. (I hope she's guessed right, because I'm planning to go to Best Buy this weekend, and if they have one, that's what she's getting -- unless by some miracle they do have the type of laptop case she wants.)

- Exciting news from Anime News Network: Yuu Watase's Arata: The Legend Gets Summer TV Anime. Arata is one of my favorite current manga series, and I've been hoping it would get an anime. (It would be pretty awesome if Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden got an anime as well, especially since it's a couple of chapters from ending.)

- Speaking of manga and anime, it's that time again -- Right Stuf's Twelve Days of Savings sale! It's no lie that I've been waiting all year for this. In fact, I actually haven't ordered anything at all from them this year so far, due to wanting to save my money for the sale. I'm going to splurge like I've never splurged before, and I'm not going to feel guilty about it at all.

- Oh, and I sent out my Christmas cards yesterday, but if you still want to request one, that's fine. Just comment to my card post a couple of entries down and I'll be happy to send you one!

I'm almost broke, but I definitely got my money's worth.

For those who don't know, select Best Buy stores are currently having a clearance sale on all their anime, 50% off. Unfortunately, the closest store to me was about fifty miles away, so I thought I wouldn't be able to take advantage of it.

Well, I talked to my mom about it, and she agreed to take me when I offered to buy her the Supernatural boxset she's been wanting and can't afford at the moment -- which she actually wouldn't let me buy her when we got there, since it was so expensive. (Isn't my mom nice?) I insisted on buying her something for her trouble, though, so I bought her a twenty dollar Outer Limits boxset instead, while I loaded up on anime.

The loot? Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid, School Rumble: First Semester, and both parts of School Rumble: Second Semester.

All for a hundred dollars and some change. Can you believe it? O.o

The only thing that would have been better is if they had had the School Rumble OVA and the FMP/FMP Fumoffu boxset, but, oh, well. I'll just wait until Right Stuf has a good deal on those.

So, Mom handed me one of her credit cards today and told me to use it to order about $70 worth of Christmas presents for myself. I was hoping I would be able to order the last volume of Le Chevalier D'Eon that I needed from Right Stuf, but not only were they sold out of it again, it's apparently no longer available for purchase from them. That meant I had to try to find a copy somewhere else. (There was no way I was going to buy the upcoming boxset when I only needed one DVD to finish my collection.)

I tried all the usual places. Barnes & Noble wasn't selling it. Overstock.com wasn't selling it. Best Buy is still selling it, but it's currently on backorder and selling for about $25, more than I really wanted to pay when I had bought the rest of the DVDs for the same price at Right Stuf. Finally, I got lucky at Amazon.com. Amazon.com itself didn't have any for sale, but there were some copies available through the Marketplace, and one of the sellers was actually the head of Right Stuf (shawnek). I've never ordered anything from the Marketplace before, but I figured "what the heck?" and ordered a new copy from the aforementioned shawnek for about $11.

Not only that, but since [livejournal.com profile] catalina_bella was nice enough to give me her copy of Vol. 2 of SuperS that she no longer needed -- came in yesterday, thanks again! -- I decided to finish up my DVD collection of SuperS by ordering Vols. 1 & 3 through the Marketplace as well. Can you believe somebody was actually selling a new copy of Vol. 3 for $53?!  Man, if I had known back then how valuable they would become, I would have stocked up! *laughs* Needless to say, I ended up ordering a used copy of that volume that still cost about twenty dollars, but I think it'll be worth it to finally have the whole season on DVD. ^_^

Can it be Christmas yet? Please?

Busy day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers reading this! ^_^

However, even though it was Mother's Day, I have to admit I ended up making out like a bandit. *laughs* My parents got their economic stimulus check (or whatever it's called) in last week, so Mom and I went to Best Buy after church to check out their TVs, since Mom's been wanting a new TV so she wouldn't have to deal with those new converter boxes. According to the guy who was helping us, though, even if we bought a new TV, we would still need to get a converter box. (I'm thinking maybe he just didn't know what he was talking about, because I was under the impression that all new TVs were ready for the switch to digital next year, but, oh, well.) Mom didn't see the point of buying a new TV if she was going to have to get a converter box as well, so we decided to just wait until we got our coupons for the converter boxes (one for my TV, too) and used the money we were going to use to buy the TV to go on a little shopping spree. ^_^

Not only did I get the Peach Girl boxset for our family's made-up holiday of Daughter's Day (technically tomorrow), but she also bought me Tales of Phantasia for my GBA, three really cool shirts from Cato's, and a proper TV stand for the TV in my room. (I have been using an end table for the past couple of years.) Don't worry, though. Mom got more than her fair share, too, including the hydrangea bush I gave her for Mother's Day.

All in all, pretty cool mother/daughter day. ^_^
heavenly_pearl: (Default)

Okay, so two of the manga series I've been reading are close to wrapping up: Absolute Boyfriend and Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound. Once I get in the volumes I recently ordered from Right Stuf, I'll only have to buy one more volume each for both of them, so I decided it would be okay to start collecting a couple of new short series -- the keyword being short. I even went to AnimeonDVD.com's manga comparison chart (which shows how any volumes make up each series) and made out a list of possible series to buy so that when we went to Barnes & Noble today, I wouldn't accidentally pick out something with a lot of volumes. I just wanted something with seven volumes or less, that's all.

Well, I found one of the series I wanted, a josei manga called Suppli that sounded really interesting. However, there's only one volume out so far, and I'm not exactly the kind of person who can leave a bookstore with only one manga volume. *laughs* The other series I really wanted was Emma, but they didn't have it, nor any of the other series I was vaguely considering.

Then I saw it.

An Omnibus Edition of xxxHolic. Three volumes in one twelve dollar book.

Before, I wasn't all that interested in reading it, but I just couldn't pass up such a good deal.

And now I'm collecting yet another long, on-going series. I'm insane. -_-;

Omnibus Editions are evil.

But oh, so good.

Also, it sucks that when we got home from our shopping and checked the mail, there were coupons for both Barnes & Noble and Best Buy (which we also went to, although I didn't buy anything). Why couldn't they come in yesterday? *sigh* Now they'll just go to waste.

*yawn*

Yes, I am up at 7:00. Mom didn't want to go to Midnight Mass last night, so we're going to the 8:00 mass this morning.

I want to go back to beeeedddd.

*yawns again*

Well, anyway,  Merry Christmas everybody!

We opened our presents last night like we do every year. It wasn't quite as bad a haul as I thought it would be, considering. I thought since Mom knew she wouldn't be able to spend a lot of money this year, she would get lots of silly, cheap gifts that we didn't really want just so that we would still get a lot of stuff, but really the only useless gift I got was yet another journal. (She gets me one practically every year, even thought I only really use them to write down computer passwords and the occasional story idea. Oh, well. At least it's cute.)

Here's the rundown:

Gifts )

I think that's about it. I'll edit this later when we get home from church.

EDIT: Okay, we're back.

Amusing little anecdote about Laura's gift: While she was here for Thanksgiving, Laura kept pestering me and Mom about what we wanted for Christmas because she didn't want to take the easy way out and give us gift cards. Mom gave her a list of movies she wanted, but I couldn't think of anything at the time. A few days later, though, I sent her an email with a short list of things she could choose from: Princess Tutu boxset, Diamond Daydreams boxset, or Blades of Glory. As it turned out, she had already gotten me Blades of Glory for my birthday gift (which I finally got last Sunday, almost two months after the fact). However, when it came to our Christmas gifts, what did she give me and Mom?

Gift cards. *laughs*

Granted, she did originally get Mom a couple of movies, but she had to take them back because Mom went ahead and bought them for herself, and she was planning to get me one of the boxsets I wanted, but she lost my email, but still, I thought that was pretty funny, especially since the one person she was planning to give a gift card to -- Daddy, who is horrible to shop for -- actually got a movie and coffee mug.

As for what I ordered with the $50 gift card, Right Stuf had an awesome sale on a Rumbling Hearts bundle that I couldn't pass up. Originally it was $90, but I got it for $20! O.o (I really wish I held off on the first FMA boxset. They had a sale on that, too.) I also got the FMA movie and the next volumes of Absolute Boyfriend, NANA, and Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound.

My "spending" wallet is now officially (well, mostly) empty, but it doesn't matter, because I'm now the proud owner of the Kaleido Star Season 2 boxset (and Vol. 3 of the Ultramaniac manga)!

*dances around happily*

I'm really glad I decided to buy it at Best Buy. The retail price was about $60, Right Stuf had it for $54, but it was only $45 at Best Buy, $40 after I used a five dollar coupon. Whee! That was still a bit on the expensive side in my opinion, considering it's one of those thin packs stripped of all the extras and stuff, but, oh, well. It's Kaleido Star!

Now, maybe I'll be inspired to get back to work on my two Kaleido Star fics -- my multi-part and the crossover with SuperS -- neither which I've worked on for the past few weeks.

Wow!

Nothing makes me happier than a really great sale. ^_^

Recently, my mom got a J.C. Penney's credit card in the mail, so, today, we decided to go to the mall to "try it out," as my mom kept saying. As it turned out, we picked a really good day to go because they were having some really fantastic sales and markdowns. Can you believe I managed to find a ninety dollar pantsuit for only ten dollars? O.o Crazy, isn't it? I have to admit that it's not something I would normally buy for myself, although it is quite cute, but I just couldn't pass up such a great bargain.

I mean, it was a ninety dollar pantsuit for ten dollars, for crying out loud!

*laughs*

And that's not all I got! In addittion to the pantsuit, I got:

- A purple skirt (Orig. $40, marked down to $19.99)
- A graphic-patterned blouse (Orig. $40, marked down to $19.99)
- Platinum-plated amethyst and diamond earrings (Orig. $60, marked down to $19.99)
- 18KT gold-plated sapphire and diamond earrings (Orig. $60, marked down to $19.99)

All together, I calculated I got $290 worth of clothes and jewelry for somewhere around $90! And that's not even including the 15% we got off our entire purchase because it was the first time Mom used the card. Together with Mom's things -- she also got a great deal on a $80 dress, marked down to ten, plus some other sale items -- we saved well over $300!

Amazing, huh? ^_^

I also picked up Vol. 4 of Ultramaniac and Vol. 10 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles from Waldenbooks while we were there, of course.

My one letdown today was due to a ditzy moment from me. >.< Just when we were about to leave to go to the mall, I looked up at our calender and noticed that today was the fourth. I remember thinking there was something really off about that, but I was just too excited to care because I thought I would be able to buy the Kaleido Star Season 2 boxset that's coming out on Sept. 4th. Well, as you all know, today is actually the first. I was looking at August since we hadn't switched over to Septenber yet! *laughs* Oh, well, Mom says she'll take me to next weekend to buy it, so I suppose I can wait that long to get it.

As Sora might say, "Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!"
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
I am extremely proud of myself right now.

My mom had the day off today, so we decided to go see License to Wed (which is absolutely hilarious, by the way). While we were waiting for the movie to start, we went to Waldenbooks so I could buy the missing volume 5 of NANA I needed to get up-to-date. Well, it just so happened that the store was having an awesome sale where if you bought three Viz titles, you could get a fourth one free. NANA was one of the included titles, but I'm up-to-date on all of the other Viz (mostly Shojo Beat) titles I'm currently collecting, so if I wanted to take advantage of the sale, it meant I would have to buy three volumes of a new series.

I was tempted. Boy, was I ever tempted. I must have spent at least twenty or thirty minutes browsing the manga section, going, "Oh, Skip-Beat looks kinda interesting... Ooo, La Corda D'oro! I've been wanting to read that... What about Full Moon? All seven volumes are out and in stock, so if I bought all of them, plus the NANA volume, I could buy six and get two free!"...etc., etc. You get the picture. *laughs* However, in the end, I decided I really did not need to start collecting another series right now (and buying all of Full Moon would have meant breaking into my savings wallet), so I just bought the NANA volume I needed and Vol. 7 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles.

*pats self on the back*

In somewhat related news, for the life of me, I cannot understand why Vol. 5 and 6 of NANA were shrink-wrapped and slapped with a mature content label when those two volumes are actually tamer than some of the earlier volumes. There was sex, sure, but nothing detailed. I've seen more explicit stuff in the earlier volumes and in Watase Yuu manga. The only reason I can think of to justify it is the fact that one of the characters makes references to the fact that he has sex for money. Is prostitution really considered "mature content" now? *scratches head* I can think of plenty of other things I've seen in manga that I would consider more "mature" than that, yet they didn't get the label. It's strange. Oh, well.

(And I hate, hate, hate getting that shrink-wrap off!)

EDIT: I just checked out AnimeOnDVD and found out that the second season boxset of Kaleido Star is coming out September 4! *dances around happily* YES, YES, YES, YES, YES! Finally, I'll be able to buy it! This is great! Unfortunately, the suggested retail price is a bit higher than I would like to pay ($60), but I'm sure I can probably find it cheaper at Right Stuf or Best Buy. Even sixty would be worth it, though, to be able to watch all of my favorite anime again.

*resolves to save money until then*
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
You know, I've only seen seven episodes so far, but I'm really enjoying Trigun. O.o I honestly didn't think I would.  After all, it is definitely a shounen show, and I'm definitely a shoujo girl, with the exception of a handful of mecha and harem titles. The only reason why I decided to put it in my Netflix queue was because it is a popular show and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know why.

How much do I like it? So much that I was considering ordering it from Right Stuf (the Signature Series is part of the Geneon sale still going on) on the basis of the two discs I've seen alone. I never do that! I always like to watch all of a series, or at least most of it, before deciding if it was worth buying or not. Unforturnately, when I went to the site, I discovered Paradise Kiss, the other Geneon series I wanted, wasn't a part of the sale for some reason, so I still wouldn't have enough to take advantage of the deal. *sigh*

I still may go ahead and buy it if Best Buy has a not-too-expensive boxset in stock, actually. Mom and I are planning to go shopping tomorrow, so I'll check it out. I'll probably just end up buying more manga though, knowing me.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)

Today was pretty awesome. ^_^

First off, Mom and I went to go see Blades of Glory. Hilarious movie. I did get a little grossed out a couple of times to the point of feeling like I wanted to throw up, but the rest of the movie was so awesome, I didn't really mind. I already can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can watch it again.

After that, we did a little shopping at the mall, which of course meant a stop at Barnes & Noble. Since I finished watching the Paradise Kiss anime last night (very good ^_^), I really wanted to check out the manga, but, unfortunately, they didn't have it in stock. :( So I decided to grab all the Aishiteruze Baby volumes they had, which was all of them except for the fifth one, instead, and I'm really glad I did. I've only read the first couple of chapters so far, but I already love it. It's so CUTE! ^_^

We then headed to Best Buy. Incredibly enough, they had the Magic Knights Rayearth boxset I was thinking about ordering from Right Stuf for fifteen dollars cheaper, which then got discounted another 10% thanks to a coupon Mom had. (Can you say awesome?) I also got the new Hayley Westenra CD I have been dying to get, and Mom bought the Firefly boxset as well (yay!).

The rest of the day was spent going to various other stores -- I didn't get anything else -- and having lunch at Cici's Pizza, but that wasn't the end of my great day. When we got home, the Fruits Basket volume I preordered a while back finally came in! That was just the cherry on my sundae. ^_^

In fact, the only bad thing about today was that while we were gone, my best friend Crystle, who is back in Texas for a visit, came by the house. *sigh* Oh, well. The gang's getting together next weekend for a sleepover, and we've made tentative plans to do something during the week as well, so we'll get together eventually. I just really wish I could have seen her today. I can't wait to see her and Hunter again, and finally meet little Ethan.

heavenly_pearl: (Default)
Remember how annoyed I was when the B&N website took the sale price off the Planet of the Apes boxset I wanted to get my mother, so I went ahead and just bought it a little bit cheaper at Best Buy?

Well, today I got a one-day coupon in my email for 25% off one item at the website.

Yep, you guessed it. If I had just waited until today, I could have gotten the boxset cheaper at the website. *sigh* Well, at least I don't have to worry about it not coming in before Christmas, although it probably would have anyway with the usual three-day free shipping.

On the plus side, though, I did get a couple of things for me: a Charlotte Church CD called Tissues and Issues that I've never been able to find anywhere else, and I used the coupon on something I'm not sure if I'll keep for myself or give to my sweetie as a Valentine's/first anniversary gift, so I'm not mentioning it here.

*sigh*

Netflix, get the last disc of the second season of Kaleido Star in already! It's been out for a month now. Why don't you have it yet?

Yume is sad. :(

In happier news, my dad paid me $140 for typing up his inventory, so I think I'm going to go ahead and get that Planet of the Apes boxset for Mom despite it being more expensive than I originally wanted to pay. I think I'll probably get it from Best Buy, though, which has it for about seven dollars cheaper than the B&N website.

I also got my dad his Christmas present -- a white dress shirt to go with the nice pinstripe pants Mom got for him -- so once I get the boxset and maybe buy something else for Dad since the shirt was only $13, I will officially be done with Christmas shopping.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
I couldn't resist such a great sale. ^_^ For those who haven't heard about it, rightstuf.com is having an insane sale on Geneon titles. You can either buy ten DVDs or CDs for $50 or twenty-five for $100.

I ended up ordering Fushigi Yugi, Fushigi Yugi: Eikoden, A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, the A Little Snow Fairy Sugar special, two I! My! Me! Strawberry Eggs discs (other two were sold out, so I'll either go to Best Buy or the B&N website), Cybuster (for the boyfriend ^_^), and an Indigo CD. (Indigo is the band who sang the ending themes to Someday's Dreamers and Ai Yori Aoshi, and I've looking for a CD.)

I still can't believe this sale! I saved about $500! How cool is that?

In other news, I feel like a very bad friend because I just realized Crystle's birthday was last month. >.< I don't know what it is, but I always think her birthday is in October instead of August. I'll have to remember to get her a card this weekend.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
Well, the outing was successful this time, but I have to say that it ended up being a rather disappointing day all around. I blame hormones. They put me in a bad mood all day long.

First off, when we got to the mall, we went to Barnes and Noble like we usually do. I wanted to get the new Someday's Dreamers manga, but they didn't have it. *sigh* I ended up buying a gift card instead to order it -- along with the upcoming  Fruits Basket and Absolute Boyfriend volumes -- online, and Mom bought me the sixth Harry Potter book that finally come out in paperback a couple of days ago.

After that, we headed to the food court, where we had lunch before going to the movies. Mom really wanted to see Lady in the Water, but since I thought it looked stupid, we decided to see The Devil Wears Prada instead. While I really enjoyed it, Mom got bored halfway through, which made me feel bad since this was supposed to be kind of a birthday celebration. (Her birthday's this Saturday.) Anyway, afterwards, we went to a few other stores, but we couldn't find anything we wanted, so we headed to Best Buy.

To be honest, going to Best Buy was the thing I most looked forward to. I planned to buy the first season of Kaleido Star (what else?), but, again, they didn't have it. Nor did they have my second choice, the second season of Wedding Peach. (They did have the first season, which I almost got, but I really wanted the second, since I haven't seen all of it.) Luckily, they did have my third choice, the Evangelion movie boxset. I ended up getting that, but, because of the aforementioned stupid hormones, I was actually trying to keep from crying that they didn't have the Kaleido Star boxset.

Yeah, I was tearing up because they didn't have a boxset. *rolls eyes* Definitely hormones.

The rest of the day pretty much just went downhill from there. Not even The Mary Tyler Moore Show managed to cheer me up, and that show always cheers me up. I'm better now, but still... Sucky day.

There was one moment of brightness, though. Dad just gave Mom her birthday present, and it''s a new flat screen TV, which means I can rid of my little TV and switch to the old living room TV. Whee! Along with my reclaimed DVD player, I can now watch subtitled anime in the comfort of my own bedroom.

At least something good happened today.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
Man, they didn't have the Evangelion boxset I wanted in stock at Best Buy. That's the whole reason I had Mom take me shopping today, so I could buy it. All they had were the movie boxsets and single discs (which are surprisingly only about $12, but even as cheap as they are, I'm holding out for the boxset). Oh, well, at least the trip wasn't a total waste. I managed to find a hard-to-find Celine Dion French album I've been wanting, and at Barnes & Noble, I picked up Vol. 12 of Fruits Basket and Vol. 2 and 3 of the RahXephon manga. I also picked up a couple of $50 B&N gift cards so I would have them on hand whenever I had the urge to shop online. Almost finished with the first one -- I just ordered Vol. 9 of Fruits Basket, Vol. 1 of RahXephon, and an impossible to find Sarah Brightman CD -- but the other one will probably be saved until the Someday's Dreamers manga comes out.

Christmas shopping is officially done.

Our first stop was Best Buy, where Mom proceeded to go DVD-crazy. ^_^ Seriously, I think she bought like five or six DVDs, plus a cheap Dean Martin Christmas CD she wanted for one song. I also picked out the Pretear boxset for one of my gifts, which was amazingly cheap. Remember a vent I made at ASMR a couple of months ago talking about how it would be cheaper to go ahead and buy the boxset instead of buying the two more DVDs I need as singles (which go for about $27 each)? Well, the boxset I found at Best Buy ended up cheaper than one single DVD. Twenty-three dollars! Twenty-three dollars for thirteen episodes! How much of a deal is that? Over at B&N's website, the same boxset (or so I assume) is $35, and I thought that was a deal. I wonder why there's so much of a difference in prices...

Speaking of boxsets, Pretear wasn't the only good deal I found at Best Buy, although I only got the one set since Mom only had sixty dollars set aside to spend on my presents. :( The Angelic Layer and Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Collection boxsets were also way under their listed B&N prices. Over at the B&N website, they go for around $45 and $80 respectively. Their Best Buy prices? About thirty-eight dollars for Angelic Layer and fifty-eight dollars for Evangelion. O.o With those prices, I might go ahead and buy them myself (at least Evangelion; I really like Angelic Layer, but it's not one of my absolute favorites).

Remind me to always check Best Buy first before I order any more anime from B&N.

Our next stop was Deerbrook Mall, namely Barnes & Noble. Mom bought Laura a couple of sweaters and a Hershey's Kiss pillow from J.C. Penney, but I spent most of my time in the manga section of B&N. ^_^ Unfortunately, they only had the second and third volumes of RahXephon in stock, so I didn't get to buy anything for myself. I did, however, pick out the newest volumes of Ayashi no Ceres and Fushigi Yugi, as well of two volumes of Fruits Basket, for Christmas, so I'll be almost caught up on my series. ^_^ I just need to find Vol. 9 of Fruits Basket, but since I've read the scanlations, I'm not in that big of a rush.

After we finished up at the mall, we then went to Wal-mart for groceries and I got presents for Crystle and Hunter. (Family gifts were already taken care of.) I think they're really going to like them. For Crystle, I got her a matching scarf and hat set, along with a pair of really cute frog-covered (she likes frogs ^_^) toe socks that say "Kiss Me," and for Hunter, I bought a Mr. Potato Head and Spud Buds set. Every kid needs a Mr. Potato Head, right? (Funnily enough, I don't think I ever did. Maybe that's why the moment I saw it, I was like, "Okay, Hunter has to have this.") I just hope they get them in time for Christmas. Mom says she probably won't have time to go to the post office to send them until Thursday when she's off. *sigh* This is what I get for waiting too long to pick something out.

Oh, yeah, and Mom bought some more DVDs. ^_^

The sucky thing, though, is that I didn't know that Numb3rs was going to be a new episode tonight, so by the time we finally got home, it was almost over. I only caught the last fifteen minutes. *pouts* I was willing to miss Ghost Whisperer, but if I knew Numb3rs was going to be new and we weren't going to make it home in time, I wouldn't have gone. Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to hope to catch it in reruns.
