Hate that my local Waldenbooks is closing, but loving the sales they've been having. Manga was 60% off, so of course I took advantage. ^_^

I bought:

Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden Vol. 9 (The right volume this time!)
Tsubasa: Those With Wings Vol. 3 (The last volume, so expect a review fairly soon)
xxxHolic Guide
Angel's Coffin
(One-shot, so I'll be reviewing that as well)
Butterflies, Flowers Vol. 1 (Josei, so I had to get it.)
High School Debut Vols. 1, 3, 4, 12

Yeah, I really wish they had more volumes of High School Debut in stock. :( They didn't really have much of a selection left, unfortunately, or else I would have bought a lot more. Actually, I'm kinda kicking myself for not picking up the four volumes of Skip-Beat they had left. With Butterflies, Flowers and High School Debut both being new series for me and a new Yuu Watase series (Arata: The Legend, surprisingly a shonen title) coming out in either March or April -- can't remember off the top of my head -- I figured that was enough for new series, but I am planning to read Skip-Beat at one point, so I should have just grabbed those volumes for super-cheap while I had the chance. Oh, well. They were later volumes, anyway, so I probably would have been totally lost trying to read them now.

Huh.

So, I found out today that my local Wal-mart carries the Fruits Basket manga. They had a whole display devoted to it and Bleach. This is awesome. ^_^ I've seen the occasional shounen manga in the children's section, but never anything I've actually been interested in. Now that I know this, I won't have to worry about ordering new volumes from Right Stuf or waiting for Mom to drive me to Barnes & Noble or Waldenbooks. Yay for convenience!

Man, isn't it annoying when you go to a bookstore to buy some new manga and they don't have the volumes you want? I went to Waldenbooks today, intending to buy the next three volumes of xxxHolic (4-6) I need, but the only one they had of the three was Vol. 5, so I ended up getting that, along with Vol. 7 and 8. Plus, since they were having a buy four manga, get one free sale, I also got Vol. 1 and 3 (2 was missing) of a new title called Yurara that I thought looked pretty interesting.

What really annoyed me though is that Waldenbooks didn't have Emma either. After looking for it at my last trip to Barnes & Noble, I was so hoping that Waldenbooks would have it. :( It's strange that neither had it in stock, considering that I've heard a lot of good things about it. Seems like it would be a pretty popular title, but I guess it's possible that it is so popular that they can't keep them in stock (although I don't think I've ever seen it at either store). Oh, well, I suppose I can just order it through Right Stuf if I have to.

(Edit: I'm so glad that I decided not to get Marmalade Boy. I was very tempted, since it's by the same mangaka who wrote Ultramaniac, Cherish, and Kimi Shika Iranai, but I knew that it was a rather old title and it was missing some volumes. Turns out that Right Stuf no longer sells it and the B&N website only has previously owned copies, so I dodged a bullet there. It would suck to buy a portion of the series, only to find out you couldn't buy the rest (although I may look into these previously owned copies at B&N).)

Waldenbooks was having an awesome "buy four manga, get the fifth one free" sale, so I bought the four volumes of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles I needed to finally get up to date, and got the last volume of Ultramaniac for free! It meant dipping into my saving wallet, but, oh, well. I couldn't resist. ^_^ Besides, with those five, I am now up-to-date on all my manga except for needing the second half of Magic Knight Rayearth.

Yay!

In other news, I can't decide if I want to sign up for the character claim at [profile] sm_monthly for October. Being able to claim whatever character you want to be the month's theme is fun, but I really should be focusing on some of my other projects, which I've sorely been neglecting as of late. Plus, I'll feel bad if I get assigned a character somebody else really wanted, then end up not writing anything for him/her. *sigh* Decisions, decisions...

Wow!

Nothing makes me happier than a really great sale. ^_^

Recently, my mom got a J.C. Penney's credit card in the mail, so, today, we decided to go to the mall to "try it out," as my mom kept saying. As it turned out, we picked a really good day to go because they were having some really fantastic sales and markdowns. Can you believe I managed to find a ninety dollar pantsuit for only ten dollars? O.o Crazy, isn't it? I have to admit that it's not something I would normally buy for myself, although it is quite cute, but I just couldn't pass up such a great bargain.

I mean, it was a ninety dollar pantsuit for ten dollars, for crying out loud!

*laughs*

And that's not all I got! In addittion to the pantsuit, I got:

- A purple skirt (Orig. $40, marked down to $19.99)
- A graphic-patterned blouse (Orig. $40, marked down to $19.99)
- Platinum-plated amethyst and diamond earrings (Orig. $60, marked down to $19.99)
- 18KT gold-plated sapphire and diamond earrings (Orig. $60, marked down to $19.99)

All together, I calculated I got $290 worth of clothes and jewelry for somewhere around $90! And that's not even including the 15% we got off our entire purchase because it was the first time Mom used the card. Together with Mom's things -- she also got a great deal on a $80 dress, marked down to ten, plus some other sale items -- we saved well over $300!

Amazing, huh? ^_^

I also picked up Vol. 4 of Ultramaniac and Vol. 10 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles from Waldenbooks while we were there, of course.

My one letdown today was due to a ditzy moment from me. >.< Just when we were about to leave to go to the mall, I looked up at our calender and noticed that today was the fourth. I remember thinking there was something really off about that, but I was just too excited to care because I thought I would be able to buy the Kaleido Star Season 2 boxset that's coming out on Sept. 4th. Well, as you all know, today is actually the first. I was looking at August since we hadn't switched over to Septenber yet! *laughs* Oh, well, Mom says she'll take me to next weekend to buy it, so I suppose I can wait that long to get it.

As Sora might say, "Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!"

I am extremely proud of myself right now.

My mom had the day off today, so we decided to go see License to Wed (which is absolutely hilarious, by the way). While we were waiting for the movie to start, we went to Waldenbooks so I could buy the missing volume 5 of NANA I needed to get up-to-date. Well, it just so happened that the store was having an awesome sale where if you bought three Viz titles, you could get a fourth one free. NANA was one of the included titles, but I'm up-to-date on all of the other Viz (mostly Shojo Beat) titles I'm currently collecting, so if I wanted to take advantage of the sale, it meant I would have to buy three volumes of a new series.

I was tempted. Boy, was I ever tempted. I must have spent at least twenty or thirty minutes browsing the manga section, going, "Oh, Skip-Beat looks kinda interesting... Ooo, La Corda D'oro! I've been wanting to read that... What about Full Moon? All seven volumes are out and in stock, so if I bought all of them, plus the NANA volume, I could buy six and get two free!"...etc., etc. You get the picture. *laughs* However, in the end, I decided I really did not need to start collecting another series right now (and buying all of Full Moon would have meant breaking into my savings wallet), so I just bought the NANA volume I needed and Vol. 7 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles.

*pats self on the back*

In somewhat related news, for the life of me, I cannot understand why Vol. 5 and 6 of NANA were shrink-wrapped and slapped with a mature content label when those two volumes are actually tamer than some of the earlier volumes. There was sex, sure, but nothing detailed. I've seen more explicit stuff in the earlier volumes and in Watase Yuu manga. The only reason I can think of to justify it is the fact that one of the characters makes references to the fact that he has sex for money. Is prostitution really considered "mature content" now? *scratches head* I can think of plenty of other things I've seen in manga that I would consider more "mature" than that, yet they didn't get the label. It's strange. Oh, well.

(And I hate, hate, hate getting that shrink-wrap off!)

EDIT: I just checked out AnimeOnDVD and found out that the second season boxset of Kaleido Star is coming out September 4! *dances around happily* YES, YES, YES, YES, YES! Finally, I'll be able to buy it! This is great! Unfortunately, the suggested retail price is a bit higher than I would like to pay ($60), but I'm sure I can probably find it cheaper at Right Stuf or Best Buy. Even sixty would be worth it, though, to be able to watch all of my favorite anime again.

*resolves to save money until then*

Seriously, this sudden manga bug I've been bitten by needs to stop. In just the past couple of weeks, I think I've spent about $150 just on manga, which is so not like me. I'm a notorious tightwad, but...manga!

*glomps stack of new manga*

But, yeah, I bought some more manga today: Vol. 4 and 5 of Tsubasa and the first two volumes of NANA. -_-; I probably would have bought more of NANA, actually, but Waldenbooks didn't have the third volume in stock, so I decided to stick with just the first two for now. (Probably for the best.) At least I managed to stop myself from picking up the first three volumes of Card Captor Sakura they had, although they were very tempting. I already have enough series to finish collecting: NANA, Tsubasa, Fruits Basket, Absolute Boyfriend, and Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound.

Gah!

*hides $50 B&N gift card so I'm not tempted to order more*

In other news, Mom totally ruined her Mother's Day present. I bought said gift card so that I could order the Indiana Jones boxset she's been wanting online as a surprise, but the moment she saw it, she knew exactly what I was going to buy with it. *sigh* Since she already knew what I wanted to buy, I ended up just buying the set from Best Buy, which is why I still have the gift card.

Man, it's tempting me...

No! No more manga for at least a month, Yume!

Eh, it'll probably be gone by the end of next weekend.

I'm too weak.
