I celebrated by buying a gift for myself: the Chibiusa and Pegasus Chouette figure I've been drooling over! I wanted to buy it from Crunchyroll, which looks to have it already in stock, but for some weird reason, they kept saying my credit card information was wrong even though it wasn't. I finally gave up and just pre-ordered it from Amazon instead (same price anyway). I'll have to wait until the end of March to get it, but, oh, well. I also ordered both Sailor Moon Crystal DVD sets -- Amazon has the first set on sale for just under $20! -- and a couple of gifts for my nephew's birthday in March. Can't believe he's almost three already!

Awesome find!
Jan. 16th, 2014 06:20 pmAnd to make an great day even better, I finally got to see Frozen, which I've been dying to see ever since it was released, and I absolutely loved it. Definitely my pick for the Best Animated Film Oscar.
My mom just brought home the sweetest gray tabby!
Total surprise. Mom was a work, and a customer found an abandoned cat. She couldn't take it home with her, though, because her son is allergic, so she asked if anybody in the pharmacy would be willing to take it. As it so happens, over Thanksgiving, Mom mentioned that she was thinking about getting me a cat for Christmas -- talk about fate! So of course she volunteered and took a short break to drop it off at home.
Oh, man, this cat is so unbelievably CUTE! I'm already in love. She's -- Mom was calling it a "he", but it looks female to me -- exploring the house right now, but she keeps coming back over to me every few minutes, wanting me to pet and kiss her. *melts into a puddle of goo* And I don't think she's stopped purring yet! I wish our digital camera worked... This cuteness demands to be shared.
Now I have to think of a name. When Mom first mentioned the possibility of a cat for Christmas, I thought Angel would be rather appropriate, and it certainly does suit her. (Except for when she stepped on the computer and accidentally turned it off when I was in the middle of writing this entry, scaring the crap out of me... *laughs* Oh, well, she's so cute, I forgive her!) But she also seems like a Daphne to me, for some reason (presuming she is a girl). Luna could also work. Hmm, I'll have to think about it.
In other news, I'm a bit annoyed because I ordered Christmas presents for my mother and brother-in-law from Amazon a couple of days ago, but it seems like my brother-in-law's gift is now on backorder and probably won't be delivered in time for Christmas. They said there was still one left in stock when I ordered it... I guess someone was just a little faster, though. *sigh* Now I don't know what to do. I guess print out a picture and stuff it inside a card, explaining that he'll get it eventually? (I don't want to cancel it and get him something else; it was hard enough shopping for him in the first place.)
Oh, and last week's Andrea Bocelli concert? A-MAZ-ING. Best birthday present EVER.
The reason why I didn't have time to post it at AO3 is because yesterday Mom and I went to the movies -- we saw Hope Springs, which was pretty good -- then did a little shopping. Of course, that meant manga for me! At Barnes & Noble, I picked up Sailor Moon Vol. 7, Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden Vol. 10 (finally, a new volume!), and the first 3-in-1 omnbus edition of Skip-Beat, which I've always wanted to read but thought was too long. Actually, I still think it's too long, but you know me, I'm always a sucker for an omnibus... *laughs* We also went to Half-Price Books. For once, though, they didn't have anything I was interested in, so I decided to satisfy my craving for bargain-hunting out-of-print manga on the Amazon Marketplace. I ordered Vols. 4 & 7 of Othello, Vol. 6 of Doubt! (all three missing volumes from series I bought previously at HPB), and Clannad: After Story Collection 2. (You may remember that I got the rest of the series for ridiculously cheap during Right Stuf's holiday sale last year.) Also bought some newer manga: Arata: The Legend Vol. 9, Kimi ni Todoke Vols. 8 and 9, and Kobato. Vols. 2-4.
So, yeah, I'm going to be in manga heaven for the next couple of weeks. ^_^
I'm getting really bad about doing my meme questions, so today will be another two-for-one. They're related anyway.
19. A manga/an anime that you disliked at first but came to enjoy later on
Hmm, this is a tough question. I guess I would have to say the manga series Phantom Dream did get a lot better later in the series. I didn't really care for it at all in the beginning. As for anime.... Maybe Gundam Wing? It was a bit of a struggle to get through the first half, but past the recap, I enjoyed it more, although I never really came to love it. It's a pretty average series.
20. A manga/an anime you started out enjoying but ended up not liking as much
Ah, this question is much easier to answer! I've already mentioned Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic in reply to a similar question from this meme, but for anime, it's gotta be Kare Kano. It was so, so good until the last couple of episodes! Unfortunately, the ending is so terrible that it's tainted the rest of the series for me.
I will give a rundown of the order, though:
Soul Eater Holiday Bundle
Black Butler Holiday Bundle
Pumpkin Scissors S.A.V.E. boxset
Girls' High boxset
Nanaka 6/17 boxset
Clannad Collection 1 boxset
Clannad Collection 2 boxset
Clannad After Story Collection 1 boxset
My Santa
Sailor Moon Vol. 2
Codename: Sailor V Vol. 1
Codename: Sailor V Vol. 2
Arata: The Legend Vol. 7
I'm a bit of an idiot, however. Those four manga volumes were the only things not from the 12 Days of Christmas sale. I included them in the order, meaning to use a "buy three manga, get one free" coupon that was in their last catalog, and then I FORGOT TO USE IT! *bangs head* I did email them right afterwards about it, so hopefully they can add it to the order. If not, no big of a deal. Still cheaper than buying at Barnes & Noble, and I can always use the coupon for a later order. Bit of a ditz moment on my part, though. I can't believe I did that!
(You might also notice that I didn't get the second half of Clannad After Story. They were already sold out of it. :( But the rest of the Clannad boxsets were so cheap ($5.99 each), that I decided to get them anyway. I'll get the missing one from Amazon.)
I love a great deal!
Nov. 26th, 2011 08:48 pmAnd apparently I'm getting a really amazing gift this year from my parents, so now I'm totally curious about what it is. I know Mom was talking about getting me a new TV a couple of weeks ago, but I don't think that's it, since none of the packages she brought in from shopping were big enough. I don't really need a new one, anyway. My current TV works just fine; I have no complaints with it. Maybe a Blu-Ray player? But again, I don't really need one at the moment. As long as they keep putting anime out on DVDs, I'm happy. (I didn't make the switch from VHS to DVD until Pioneer stopped releasing Card Captor Sakura and Sailor Moon SuperS on videotape, and I imagine it's going to be the same with Blu-Ray.) A gaming system would be pretty cool, I suppose, but what I'm really hoping for is a MP3 player, especially since I recently read an article that said that they're planning to stop producing CDs by 2013. I mentioned that to Mom last weekend, so hopefully she got the hint. *crosses fingers*
Ugh! The final package from my recent CLAMP splurge at the Amazon Marketplace came in today, and the idiots sent me the wrong volume! I bought two things from this seller, Angelic Layer Vol. 2 and Vol. 4, but both the volumes they sent me were Vol. 2. I even went back and made sure I didn't accidentally order two of the same item because I do remember having to correct something like that when I was ordering, but, no, I just ordered one of each. Remind me never to buy anything from them again. (Well, I guess if they fix things, I can forgive them, since everybody makes mistakes every once in a while, but I'm still not inclined to trust them with any future orders...)
UPDATE: So I emailed the seller, and they got back to me really quickly. They said they'll refund my money AND I don't have to return the extra volume. (I guess since it was used, they didn't really care about it.) That means I now have an extra Angelic Layer Vol. 2 that I have absolutely no use for, so does anybody want it? It's free!
Hey, it's a non-meme post!
Jan. 21st, 2011 01:39 pmMan, I love bargain hunting at Amazon Marketplace. I finally decided to use up my last Visa gift card and bought myself a ton of CLAMP, because I have apparently decided that I need to own ALL their licensed works. (Except for X. I won't be buying that until they start working on it again. And Man of Many Faces, because Vol. 2 is ridiculously expensive.) I blame it on the Southside Artbook I bought a few weeks ago. After seeing all those gorgeous pictures, I need more of the pretty.
Anyway, I ordered the Northside Artbook, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland, both volumes of Duklyon Clamp School Defenders, all three volumes of Clamp School Detectives, and the first four of the five volumes of Angelic Layer. (I ran out of money on the card before I could get the last one.) My one non-CLAMP purchase was the Vol. 5 disc of Hare + Guu that I needed to finish the main series. Paid close to retail for it, but it was the cheapest available, and I didn't want to risk the possibility of never getting it. Besides, I got such a good deal on everything else that I didn't really mind paying a little extra for it.
Now I just need to get that last volume of Angelic Layer, finish up xxxHolic (which I hear is about to end soon), collect Tokyo Babylon and RG Veda, and start on Kobato., and my collection will be complete!
Yeah... I may be a little insane.
Amazon Browsing
Jan. 9th, 2011 12:40 pmSo, I was browsing Amazon.com, thinking about what I wanted to buy with my last Christmas gift card, when I decided to search for Sailor Moon merchandise on a lark. One of the things I found was this:

Amazon Link
Though it's the Japanese edition, back in the day, they also released these dolls here in the U.S. I have all the other Inners and Tuxedo Kamen, but I'm missing Sailor Venus. I can't remember if I just couldn't find her anywhere, or if I was in my silly "I hate Venus because she wears orange" phase and decided not to buy her out of spite, but I've always regretted not having her in my collection, especially since Venus is virtually tied with Mars as my favorite of the Inners.
The question is, should I snap this one up? I would in a heartbeat if I could get it for, say, about five dollars, but they're selling this one for around $27 (once you include shipping). Twenty-seven dollars is a lot of money for a silly little toy. (And if the American edition was just a repackage of the Japanese toys, not very good quality either.) I don't think I spent that much on the other five combined. Still, I really would love to have her in my collection...
Ugh, I can't decide. It's so, so tempting, but I could buy several volumes of used, out-of-print CLAMP manga with that kind of money, which would be a much better value.
Maybe I'll just wait and hope that somebody will put up a cheaper offer someday...
This may be a long shot, but...
May. 4th, 2010 11:56 amFor the past week or so, I've been watching Gilgamesh through Netflix. Though I still have one more disc to see, unless the ending is really terrible -- which I've read some reviews that say it is -- I'm probably going to snatch it up for my collection.
My question is, does anybody own either of the two boxsets and can tell me if they come with the extras? If possible, I'd really like to have the extras. They seemed interesting, but because tthere were so many of them, I skipped watching some of them.
The two boxsets in question are this one and this one.
If neither come with extras, the individual discs are also an option since they are ridiculously cheap at Right Stuf, but they're out of Vol. 2 and I don't know if it'll ever come back in stock, given that it's out of print. I suppose I can always buy Vol. 2 off the Amazon Marketplace, but I would prefer one of the boxsets, provided they come with the extras.
Thanks!
EDIT: Never mind. I went over to AnimeOnDVD (Mania.com) and looked up the reviews for the boxsets. (Can't believe I didn't think of that sooner!) Neither come with the extras. Phooey. Oh, well, I guess I'll snatch up all the individual discs Right Stuf currently has in stock and wait a couple of months to see if they ever get in more Vol. 2s. If not, I'll just pick one up at the Amazon Marketplace. It's not like I'll be in any hurry to rewatch the series anyway. I have too many other series I need to rewatch before then!
The addiction keeps growing
Feb. 8th, 2009 07:19 pmGuys, I just went a little nuts at Amazon. >.< As if I'm not addicted enough to Sims 2, I decided I simply must have the rest of the Stuff Packs I needed to complete my set, like, yesterday, so I bought a $100 Visa giftcard at Wal-mart and ordered all four of them at once (Happy Holidays Stuff, Family Fun Stuff, Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff, and Glamour Life Stuff). *laughs* Now all I need is the Apartment Life expansion pack, but I'm not in any real rush to get that one since it's the newest and easy to find in stores. (I actually had to buy two of the Stuff packs from the Marketplace, since Amazon wasn't selling them anymore.) I also pre-ordered the first volume of Tsubasa: Those With Wings (from the mangaka of Fruits Basket) and picked up Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Vol. 20, along with a paperback copy of Anna Karenina, which I've wanted to read ever since my sophomore year in high school, when I stupidly chose to read Wuthering Heights instead for Pre-AP English. (I needed something under seven dollars to max out the card, so I figured it was as good as time as ever to get around to it!)
Only bad thing about online shopping? The wait.
I want my Sims stuff now!
*pouts*
On a mad search
Nov. 25th, 2008 11:18 pmSo, Mom handed me one of her credit cards today and told me to use it to order about $70 worth of Christmas presents for myself. I was hoping I would be able to order the last volume of Le Chevalier D'Eon that I needed from Right Stuf, but not only were they sold out of it again, it's apparently no longer available for purchase from them. That meant I had to try to find a copy somewhere else. (There was no way I was going to buy the upcoming boxset when I only needed one DVD to finish my collection.)
I tried all the usual places. Barnes & Noble wasn't selling it. Overstock.com wasn't selling it. Best Buy is still selling it, but it's currently on backorder and selling for about $25, more than I really wanted to pay when I had bought the rest of the DVDs for the same price at Right Stuf. Finally, I got lucky at Amazon.com. Amazon.com itself didn't have any for sale, but there were some copies available through the Marketplace, and one of the sellers was actually the head of Right Stuf (shawnek). I've never ordered anything from the Marketplace before, but I figured "what the heck?" and ordered a new copy from the aforementioned shawnek for about $11.
Not only that, but since

Can it be Christmas yet? Please?
