Half-Price Books had a twenty-percent off sale for Labor Day, so we hit two different stores -- they were only four miles apart, so we figured we might as well -- so I could stock up on manga. I managed to get twenty-four volumes for roughly about a hundred dollars. Not a bad deal at all! ^_^ I picked up all four volumes of MeruPuri, six out of seven volumes of Crossroad, and fourteen out of eighteen volumes of Sensual Phrase (Vol. 1-11, 13-15). Actually, I found Vol. 18 of Sensual Phrase at the other store that I didn't get the other volumes at and I thought for sure that I put it in my basket, but when I got up to the register to pay, it had mysteriously disappeared. I don't know if I just dropped it somewhere in the store or if somebody snatched it out of my basket when I wasn't looking, but that was really weird. I even went back to the manga section to check if it was still on the shelf, but that volume was missing, meaning I must have put it in my basket. Oh, well, I'm sure I can find it on the Amazon Marketplace or something when I go looking for the other volumes I need.

Also of interest, they actually had some Japanese imported DVDs of Sailor Moon. (I assume they were legit and not bootlegs, but I guess they could have been.) Way too expensive to buy when they didn't have subtitles and probably wouldn't play on my DVD player, but still really cool to come across. I also came across half of one of the ADV boxsets -- just one of the two brick cases, no artbox -- selling for $100, which is crazy! I hope nobody picks that up thinking it's a good deal, especially with a much better release coming out in a few months...

I can't believe I actually own the complete series of Flag! *squeals* The last time I went to Half-Price Books a couple of months ago, they only had three (out of four) discs of Flag on the shelf. At the time, I was tempted to buy them, but I knew from a previous search that one of the discs was insanely difficult to find even used, so I decided to pass it up. Good thing, too, since when I got home and did another search, the missing disc (Vol. 2) was, of course, the one that was impossible to find -- and I mean, impossible. There wasn't a single copy to be found on the Amazon Marketplace. Well, fast-forward to today, and they had ALL FOUR DISCS! For only $6 each! Do you guys know how much that Vol. 2 is going for? I just checked the Amazon Marketplace again, and they actually have a few copies up for sell now, but the cheapest is going for $49.83. I managed to get the entire series for only $24! Yeah, this is definitely going down as one of my most amazing finds.

And to make an great day even better, I finally got to see Frozen, which I've been dying to see ever since it was released, and I absolutely loved it. Definitely my pick for the Best Animated Film Oscar.

Gah, January is halfway over, and I haven't updated this thing yet this year! And I meant to be better about posting... Oh, well. Nothing much to report anyway. Went to see Les Miserables today -- AMAZING! I think I cried at least three or four times. Also picked up some manga from Half-Price Books: a complete set of Land of the Blindfolded and Castle of Dreams, a short story collection from the mangaka of Kare Kano. I love finding a full series for super-cheap!

Hmm, anything else? Oh, I posted Ch. 22 of "Melting Ice" earlier this month at the usual places, if anybody is interested.

That's about it in the life of Yume.

First off, Politically Incorrect is posted at dotmoon and FF.net. (I'll post it AO3 either later today or tomorrow; I didn't have time yesterday.). Decided just to post the whole thing as a long one-shot, since it really wasn't set up to be a chaptered story. If you read it before, I made a few really minor changes, but also added a One Year Later scene at the end that you may want to check out.

The reason why I didn't have time to post it at AO3 is because yesterday Mom and I went to the movies -- we saw Hope Springs, which was pretty good -- then did a little shopping. Of course, that meant manga for me! At Barnes & Noble, I picked up Sailor Moon Vol. 7, Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden Vol. 10 (finally, a new volume!), and the first 3-in-1 omnbus edition of Skip-Beat, which I've always wanted to read but thought was too long. Actually, I still think it's too long, but you know me, I'm always a sucker for an omnibus... *laughs* We also went to Half-Price Books. For once, though, they didn't have anything I was interested in, so I decided to satisfy my craving for bargain-hunting out-of-print manga on the Amazon Marketplace. I ordered Vols. 4 & 7 of Othello, Vol. 6 of Doubt! (all three missing volumes from series I bought previously at HPB), and Clannad: After Story Collection 2. (You may remember that I got the rest of the series for ridiculously cheap during Right Stuf's holiday sale last year.) Also bought some newer manga: Arata: The Legend Vol. 9, Kimi ni Todoke Vols. 8 and 9, and Kobato. Vols. 2-4.

So, yeah, I'm going to be in manga heaven for the next couple of weeks. ^_^

I'm getting really bad about doing my meme questions, so today will be another two-for-one. They're related anyway.

19. A manga/an anime that you disliked at first but came to enjoy later on

Hmm, this is a tough question. I guess I would have to say the manga series Phantom Dream did get a lot better later in the series. I didn't really care for it at all in the beginning. As for anime.... Maybe Gundam Wing? It was a bit of a struggle to get through the first half, but past the recap, I enjoyed it more, although I never really came to love it. It's a pretty average series.

20. A manga/an anime you started out enjoying but ended up not liking as much

Ah, this question is much easier to answer! I've already mentioned Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic in reply to a similar question from this meme, but for anime, it's gotta be Kare Kano. It was so, so good until the last couple of episodes! Unfortunately, the ending is so terrible that it's tainted the rest of the series for me.

I know they're just doing their job, but, gah, I can't stand them.

Yesterday, we decided to go shopping for a new computer and went to Conn's, where we bought our previous computers. I just wanted a regular desktop PC, but the salesman who greeted us seemed determined to sell us a touchscreen instead. He pulled me away from the two traditionall PCs they had on display and took me over to the touchscreen PCs, telling me to play around with them even though I had no interest in buying one. I humored him for like a minute, then went back to looking at the other computers they had. (Even though I was most interested in a PC, a laptop wasn't completely out of the running.) Rather than letting me browse in peace, however, he kept following me everywhere I went, constantly asking, "Which one do you like? Which one do you like?" I felt like I was being stalked! And on top of that, I have real anxiety about interacting with strangers, so it was not at all a pleasant experience. Needless to say, we left the store without buying anything.

I'm still not sure if we should get a new computer, anyway. I want a new one, but since this one still works relatively fine (minus a few minor problems and the fact that the graphics aren't good enough to run Sims 3, which is the main reason I want a new one), it's hard to convince myself it's okay to upgrade. We're not generally an "upgrading" family. We use things until they're broken, and only then do we replace them. It just seeems like a lot of money to spend for something I don't really need...

On a more positive note, I did luck out and find all seven volumes of Tokyo Babylon at Half-Price Books, putting me one step closer to completing my CLAMP library. I was planning to wait for the new omnibus editions that Dark Horse is supposed to be putting out, but it's already been over a year since they made that announcement with nothing to show for it. Finding the complete set, still in great condition, at $5 a volume was just too good a deal to pass up.
