Maybe?

Some intriguing news from ANN: Viz Offers Someday's Dreamers, More CLAMP from Tokyopop Digitally

License rescuing CLAMP titles? That's a no-brainer. (The titles in question are The One I Love and Wish, by the way.) But Someday's Dreamers? I'm surprised, because I never got the impression that it was ever a big hit, despite my love for it. It's likely that all three titles were part of a bundle deal, but what if it wasn't? This kinda reminds me of when Sentai Filmworks licensed rescued the first Someday's Dreamers anime a couple of years ago. I hoped that announcement meant that they would also license the second series (Someday's Dreamers II Sora, or Someday's Dreamers: Summer Sky as I would have preferred it to be called), and lo and behold, they did end up announcing the new season about six months later. So does this mean we may get the manga counterpart as well? *crosses fingers* I wouldn't mind if it was just digital, either, since I figured out how to run the Nook app on PC through an Android emulator called BlueStacks, so no more worrying about space on my iPod touch. (Whoo! I have a feeling I'm going to be buying a lot more manga digitally from now on.) It would be awesome just to get an official release in English, no matter the method, since as far as I know, only the first couple of chapters were ever scanlated.

Before I commence with today's review, yay for the Winter Olympics! They're finally here! Anybody else watch the Opening Ceremony last night? Some of those special effects were amazing, weren't they? So pretty! I don't know how they can hold the Olympics in Canada, though, and not have Celine Dion sing during the Opening Ceremony. :( I mean, the fiddlers were a lot of fun, but I would have loved to see Celine singing one of her French songs during the section honoring Quebec. Oh, well. Minor complaint. And too bad about the malfunction during the lighting of the cauldron inside. It was still pretty cool, but you can just imagine the director banging his head against the wall when the fourth pillar didn't come up like it should have.

You know, I think this is probably the first Opening Ceremony I got the chance to watch. Of course, I wasn't able to watch the 2002 and 2006 Olympics because of not being able to get NBC over analog (same with the Summer Olympics, although I'm not really interested in them), and I missed the 1998 ceremony because of a choir trip. (I did set things up to record it, but my mother stupidly unplugged the VCR while I was gone. Grr. Still a little annoyed about that, twelve years later.) Can't remember if I watched the 1994 ceremony, but I doubt I did. That year it was all about watching the ladies' figure skating competition and the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding showdown. I don't think I watched anything else.

Well, anyway, looking forward to tomorrow when the pairs competition gets underway with the short program. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!

Now, onto the review!

My Right Stuf order came in today! Yay! I didn't think it would, since when I checked the tracking, it said the package was still in Dallas, but I guess they just forgot to update it for a couple of days.

Of course, I had to read all the new manga right away. ^_^

Some random thoughts:

Legend of Chun Hyang - I kind of wish I had done a little more research on this before I ordered it. I was under the impression that it was a one-shot manga, but while there is only one volume out, it turns out that it was a series that CLAMP had dropped. Such a shame, too. The artwork is gorgeous, and I was really starting to get into the story. Chun Hyang and Mong Ryong had the potential to become one of CLAMP's most dynamic couples. *sigh* I wonder why it was even released in English. I mean, I know anything with the CLAMP name on it is bound to sell -- heck, that's how they got me *laughs* -- but it just seems cruel to put out an incomplete series with only two chapters and a side story that has little hope of ever being continued (unlike Legal Drug and X, which are just on indefinite hiatus).

Oh, well. I guess it's good that there's only one volume, at least. I would have been mad if I had bought a bunch of volumes, only to discover it would never be finished. But one volume isn't much of a waste, and the first chapter does work pretty well as a standalone story. I'll just have to hope against hope that CLAMP decides to resurrect it someday.

The One I Love - The other CLAMP one-shot I got, which is a true one-shot consisting of twelve different stories, accompanied by essays explaining the inspiration behind the stories. Really sweet. That's really all I have to say about it. ^_^

Fruits Basket Vol. 19

Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound Vol. 5 (last volume)

Oh, I want to read the new series now! *laughs* And I'm still hoping that this series will someday be animated. Please?

So, thanks to [profile] lunaludusand [profile] mythopoet_blue's input -- thanks, guys! -- I decided that instead of getting the nine episode Fushigi Yugi OAV (which was a little too expensive for the $100 Visa gift card I used anyway), my money would be better spent on other things (namely manga).

I ordered:

Fullmetal Alchemist Boxset 3
Fullmetal Alchemist Boxset 4
Fruits Basket Vol. 19
Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound Vol. 5
Legend of Chun Hyang manga
The One I Love manga
Marriage DVD
Full Metal Panic Ani-Mini DVD

Yeah, I know I said I wouldn't start any new manga series until after I finished collecting Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound (which I'm finishing with this order), Absolute Boyfriend, and Yurara, but The One I Love and Legend of Chun Hyang are both one-shots, so I say that they don't really count. :P (Besides, they're CLAMP!) As for the last two, Marriage is a single-disc anime title that I've been eyeing for a while, since the summary sounded interesting and the price was right (only nine dollars, so even if it sucks, it's not big deal), while I mainly just got the ani-mini DVD because it was cheap ($.99) and I had a little over a dollar left on the card. *laughs*
