2012: A Year in Review )

In other news, guess who managed to find a decently-priced Man of Many Faces Vol. 2 on the Amazon Marketplace? I did! Usually they're ridiculously expensive, so I was going to exclude the series from my "collect all CLAMP series" goal, but it seems like the prices are finally going down. I got both volumes for about $20. *dances* Now I'm on the hunt for a cheap Kobato. Vol. 5, which seems to be out of print already. (Strange for a relatively new CLAMP series.) Amazon seems to still be selling them for retail price, but they don't have any currently in stock, and I'm not confident they'll ever get anymore in because the cheapest one I found on the Marketplace was for $97! Nobody would sell it for that much if it was still easy to find retail.

Two writing updates today: the final chapter of my Kaleido Star fic Blood On His Hands and a one-shot for my Fruits Basket [livejournal.com profile] 15pairings claim called The Bride Wore.... (Kazuma Sohma/Saki Hanajima), which I should have finished a loooong time ago. (Seriously, I think I added like, a hundred words to finish it up. I just kept forgetting about it!) Both can be found at FF.net, .moon, and AO3.

Next I'm going to try to get a new chapter of Melting Ice up. There's no way I'm going to fulfill the goal I set last year of actually finishing that story by the end of year -- oh, man, I'm not even close! -- but I would like to get at least one more chapter up before New Year's.

Yay, it looks like LJ is mostly back to normal now. It was annoying not being able to access the site.

In back news, I had my jury duty summons on Monday, but didn't get picked to sit on the jury. That was kind of disappointing, since it seemed like an interesting case, but at least I had lots of time to work on things this week (especially with not being able to use LJ to procrastinate like I usually do).

And since I wasn't able to do much posting this week, here's three questions at once from the 30 Day meme I've been doing:

Day 27 – Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?

The only place I write is at the computer in the living room.

Day 28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?

No. Well, not exactly, at least. [livejournal.com profile] amazonqueenkate  did list me as her co-author on Love Chain, but I didn't do any of the actual writing, just editing. However, I was the one who came up with the idea and the basic plot of the story.

Day 29 – What is your current project or projects?

On A Snowy Night (title subject to change) - A Sailor Moon vampire AU in which Chibi-Usa is a vampire and Helios is a priest. Upon meeting her, Father Helios takes her into his home and vows to help her find a cure for her vampirism. They may or may not fall in love, but probably will, because, hey, I'm me, and how can they not fall in love? *waves shipper flag*

Metamorphosis - A pseudo-prequel to To Be By Your Side that tells the story of how Helios became priest of Elysion.

Melting Ice - A Kaleido Star story focusing on Sora's little sister Yume. Yume is a figure skater, and like her sister, she is chosen to perform an amazing maneuver by Fool, the Spirit of the Stage. The only problem is, her partner Mikhail is known as the Ice Prince for his cold personality. If she ever wants to perform the Lovers' Maneuver with him, Yume will have to find a way to melt his frozen heart.

What Happens In Paris (title subject to change) - SECOND SEASON KALEIDO STAR SPOILERS AHEAD! Yuri and Layla are favorites to win the International Circus Festival, but upon meeting their rivals Leon and Sophie Oswald, Yuri sets out to cruelly seduce Sophie, his actions eventually leading to her tragic death.

Behind The Mask - An introspective Layla piece set during the "Masked Star" arc of the first season.

Currently Untitled - Yet another Kaleido Star fic, this time focusing on Leon. Set a few years post-series, Leon unexpectedly learns that he has a daughter when an ex-girlfriend of his dies and leaves him custody of their child. Leon has no interest in being a father, but with Sora's help, he begins to open his heart not only to Gabrielle, but Sora as well.

The Bride Wore... - A Fruits Basket fic for my [livejournal.com profile] 15pairings  claim. It's about Kazuma's and Hanajima's wedding day.

I'll save the last question for the weekend, since I need to think about it a little!

heavenly_pearl: (Default)

Day 10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?

Not really? At least I can't think of any off the top of my head. Maybe Yuki/Tohru from Fruits Basket? I'm much more of a Kyo/Tohru fan, but it wasn't that hard to write a Y/T fic for my [livejournal.com profile] 15pairings claim. Then again, it's not like I really disliked the paring. I just had a definite preference for the other. In the same vein, I guess you can count Leon/Sora from Kaleido Star. I definitely prefer Ken/Sora, but I'm writing a Leon/Sora fic at the moment that's going pretty well so far. It probably helps that it takes place several years post-canon. I find it hard to ship them in the canon timeline since Sora reminds Leon so much of his dead little sister, but give them some time for Leon to start seeing Sora as her own person, and they've got potential.

It's the traditional end of the year review meme! )

I want to remind everyone that I'm still accepting requests for the Alphabet Drabble Meme. I'd really like to complete the entire alphabet if possible, so I'm gonna keep plugging this until I do (or it's just obvious that nobody is interested). I have to say, this meme has honestly helped get me back into the writing groove, at least a little. I've even started a new one-shot for my [livejournal.com profile] 15pairings  claim, which I have woefully ignored. This one is a Kazuma/Saki story about their wedding day, titled The Bride Wore...,  and it's going quite well so far, if I do say so myself. (Of course, I haven't been working on it the past couple of days because there's a new chapter of Sailor Moon 4200! Yay! So, so good!) I'm hoping to get it done sometime next week.

In the meantime, I've also posted new chapters of Melting Ice and To Be By Your Side. Links go to FF.net, but they should be up at .moon this weekend.

Kerry's thread at .moon about giving away some of her story ideas gave me the inspiration to make this post -- which I hope to make a point of updating regularly -- listing all the story ideas I've had (and can remember). Unlike Kerry's thread, this really isn't about giving away fic ideas, but if something does catch your eye and it's marked as abandoned/unmarked, then feel free to take. Just leave me a note so I can read it when it's finished. ^_^ (Credit is nice, but not really necessary for most of these ideas, since they're so generic in the first place. You can probably even take an idea I'm actually working on and come up with a completely different plot than mine if you really want.)

Current fandoms represented:

Sailor Moon - 18 stories, plus four crossovers
Kaleido Star - 2 stories, plus a crossover
Fruits Basket - 2 stories
Death Note - 2 stories
Witch Hunter Robin - Crossover
Card Captor Sakura - Crossover
Someday's Dreamers - 1 story
Princess Nine - 1 story
School Rumble - 1 story
Harry Potter - 1 story
Grey's Anatomy - Crossover
Ghost Whisperer - Crossover

Key:

Bold - Current Work-in-Progress
Italics - Back-burnered, may come back to someday.
Underline - Would like to write eventually, although there's no guarantee I will.
Striked-out - Worked on some, decided to abandon. Slight possibility I may come back to it, but not likely. Up for grabs.
Normal - Random ideas I have no current plans to write, but you never know... Also up for grabs.

Fic Ideas )
heavenly_pearl: (Default)

So, I finished the third story for Rei month at [livejournal.com profile] sm_monthly , and Dissonance and Resonance is now posted in my fic journal. Unlike the other two Rei stories I wrote, this one does not take place in the "Spirit of Fire" universe, although it's still dealing with her family, and is pretty much a mish-mash of anime, manga, and PGSM canon. It also has the distinction of being the first story I've written in which Rei's father is not portrayed in a sympathetic light. Oh, you can probably find some sympathy if you read between the lines a little, but it's definitely not obvious.

Unfortunately, I was not able to reach my goal of five entries, but, oh, well.

Also posted at [profile] oyster_shell  is Gift from the Heart,  a Fruits Basket story I wrote a while back for [livejournal.com profile] 15pairings  and a .moon challenge that I pretty much completely forgot about until now. *laughs* I'll be posting it at .moon and fanfiction.net sometime this week as well. (FYI: The pairing is Ritsu/Mii, if you're interested.)

To round out this entry, I wrote a totally awesome scene for To Be By Your Side today. I'm tempted to post it, but it contains major spoilers for the story, and I'm not sure I want to let the cat out of the bag just yet, so to speak. Normally, I don't really care and will freely give out plot points for my stories, whether you want to know them or not, but I'm feeling protective of this story for some reason, so you'll just have to wait to see the finished product. :P
heavenly_pearl: (Default)

Even with my addiction to Sims still growing strong, I did manage to finish a brand new story. ^_^ It's a Fruits Basket fic for my [livejournal.com profile] 15pairings claim, focussing on Mayuko and Shigure's strange little relationship. At the moment, you can find it at [livejournal.com profile] oyster_shell  and fanfiction.net, and it should be up at .moon this weekend.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
Possibly. ^^

I don't want to jinx it, but thanks to a rewatch of the second season of Kaleido Star, I'm back to work on the KS multipart I've been writing on and off for about the past year. So far, so good on the writing front. Today was a bit iffy, since I finished the season on Saturday, but I still managed a page and a half on a part that's been giving me trouble. Maybe I'll just have to keep watching it over and over again to keep the inspiration flowing. *laughs* Man, I hope not! (Granted, I can think of worst things than watching Kaleido Star on permanent repeat, but I do like a little variety in my anime viewing. Don't want to burn out on my all-time favorite anime.)

Anyway, I'm feeling positive that I'll finally be able to concentrate on a long multi-part again. The theme for the .moon Summer Challenge doesn't interest me, so I don't have to worry about being distracted by that, and I still can't think of an ending for the Shigure/Mayuko fic I'm writing for [profile] 15pairings. That means I should be able to devote myself full time to the story, as long as I can fight the temptation to write some entries for [profile] sm_monthly. (This month's theme is Pre-Series, which I'm a big fan of.) *crosses fingers* Let's hope so. I really, really want to feel good about my writing again. It's been way too long, and I need something to bring me out of this funk I've been for pretty much this entire year so far.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
If anybody is interested, I posted Playing Doctor (my Fruits Basket .moon challenge and [profile] 15pairingsentry), as well as the first chapter of my Princess Tutu fic, Search for the Missing Past, over at [profile] oyster_shell. They should be up at FF.net and .moon within the week. You can probably expect weekly updates of the PT fic since it's already completed, so don't let that stop you if you're one of those people who don't like to read WIP in fear that they'll never be completed. I'd love to hear any comments you have about it!
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
So, I didn't mention it, but I did finish my Princess Tutu fic a couple of days ago. I don't really care for the ending, but since I've pretty much set on posting each scene as a separate chapter, that's okay. I have time to figure out how to fix it. At least it is finished. I actually finished something over 2,000 words for the first time in a long time! Yay!

Also worked a little bit on the Shigure/Mayuko fic I'm writing for [profile] 15pairings, but I just can't seem to figure out how to end it. :( It's difficult to write a romantic story about two people who basically got together because one is in love with somebody else and the other was just bored (and also in love with somebody else), but at least the theme is "why bother". *laughs*

Now I'm working on Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound Vol. 5 manga summaries for my website. Just one more to go, and I will be officially finished with all the website summaries -- at least until when/if the new series is licensed or I can find scanlations.

All in all, I guess you could say I've been fairly productive this week. Not as much as I would like, granted, but maybe a change is coming.
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
My Right Stuf order came in today! Yay! I didn't think it would, since when I checked the tracking, it said the package was still in Dallas, but I guess they just forgot to update it for a couple of days.

Of course, I had to read all the new manga right away. ^_^

Some random thoughts:

Legend of Chun Hyang - I kind of wish I had done a little more research on this before I ordered it. I was under the impression that it was a one-shot manga, but while there is only one volume out, it turns out that it was a series that CLAMP had dropped. Such a shame, too. The artwork is gorgeous, and I was really starting to get into the story. Chun Hyang and Mong Ryong had the potential to become one of CLAMP's most dynamic couples. *sigh* I wonder why it was even released in English. I mean, I know anything with the CLAMP name on it is bound to sell -- heck, that's how they got me *laughs* -- but it just seems cruel to put out an incomplete series with only two chapters and a side story that has little hope of ever being continued (unlike Legal Drug and X, which are just on indefinite hiatus).

Oh, well. I guess it's good that there's only one volume, at least. I would have been mad if I had bought a bunch of volumes, only to discover it would never be finished. But one volume isn't much of a waste, and the first chapter does work pretty well as a standalone story. I'll just have to hope against hope that CLAMP decides to resurrect it someday.

The One I Love - The other CLAMP one-shot I got, which is a true one-shot consisting of twelve different stories, accompanied by essays explaining the inspiration behind the stories. Really sweet. That's really all I have to say about it. ^_^

Fruits Basket Vol. 19

Spoilers! )

Someday's Dreamers: Spellbound Vol. 5 (last volume)

Spoilers )

Oh, I want to read the new series now! *laughs* And I'm still hoping that this series will someday be animated. Please?
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
So, I read the two volumes I bought of Full Moon, and I'm just amazed how different the pacing is from the manga.

As for the other book I bought this weekend, the Fruits Basket fanbook, it has given me an idea for a project. One of the nifty things the fanbook includes is a timeline showing most of the major events that have happened in the manga so far. However, other than Tohru meeting Uo and Hana in middle school, Kyoko's death, and something kind of spoiler-y for those who haven't read the manga, none of the pre-canon (happening prior to Tohru moving in with the Sohmas) events are shown. That kind of sucks because there are quite a few flashbacks spread throughout the course of the story that are sometimes hard to date. What I want to do is make a detailed FB timeline, including every major event mentioned, including the birth years of all the major characters and Sohmas (since Rin and Kagura's ages are actually wrong in the fanbook). I think it would be quite helpful for my [profile] 15pairingsfics, as well as other fanfic writers. ^_^

(Oh, man, I just realized I missed the five year anniversary of Yume no Kagami. It was the fifth of this month. That sucks; five years deserves something a little special. Oh, well, I'll try to come up with something to do by the end of the month. Better late than never, right?)
heavenly_pearl: (Default)
This meme is based on FF.net statistics.

How many fanfictions/stories have you written?

At FF.net, I have 32 posted, but I haven't yet posted any of my Dream Lovers ficlets there yet because I still haven't decided if I want to post them together or separately. (Have I ever mentioned how undecisive I am?) There are twenty-eight of them (although I don't plan to post all of them since some will be combined for another story), plus maybe about another ten to fifteen or so other ficlets I need to get around to posting from other challenges, so... Overall, maybe about seventy-five or so? Give or take a few?

Which one has the most reviews?

Against the Rules has 110, but Sands of Time (Destiny Arrives) isn't that far behind with 105. (I have no idea how SOT got so many. O.o I'm rereading it now while I'm editing it for the writing journal I want to start, and it's...not good. Well, when I focus on Setsuna, Mamoru, and Usagi, I suppose it is okay, but, ugh, I never should have tried to stuff the others' love lives in there as well just to explain why those people are together in Sweet Dreams. Terrible stuff, seriously.)

Least?

Not So Lucky, which was a SuperGALS/Sailor Moon crossover I wrote for a .moon challenge, only has one, and it was actually from someone who didn't even know what SuperGALS was. *laughs* Not surprising, though, I guess, since my story wasn't a Rei/Aya (*gag*) fic like about 90% of the SuperGALS section is.

Which story has the most words?

Spirit of Fire, at 257,371, but I haven't posted the last chapter of Against the Rules yet. (I think SOF will probably still be on top, though, since ATR currently stands at about 185,000. The last chapter is fairly long, but it's not that long.)

Which story has the most chapters?

All the multi-part stories in the Generations series (Sands of Time (Destiny Arrives), Sweet Dreams, and Star Crossed Lovers) have twenty-two chapters.

In what category are the majority of your stories?

Anime/Manga

What is your favorite show/ cartoon/ movie to write for?

Sailor Moon, of course.

What do you like most in reviews: Quality or Quantity?

Quality, I suppose, but the best would be a large quantity of quality reviews. ^_^

Have any of your stories made it into at least one C2?

Yes, fourteen of them have.

Are any of your stories on at least one person's favorites list?

Yes, all except three.

Are any of your stories on at least one person's alert list?

Yeah, even a few that are one-shots, for some strange reason. (O.o There are 44 people with alerts on Against the Rules. Wow.)

Are YOU favorited at least ten times?

Yes, 61 times, in fact.

What genre do you most frequently write in?

Romance, surprisingly. O.o

Do you leave comments before and after a chapter?

Mostly after, although there have been a couple of times before when I thought they needed to know something before reading the story (like a spoiler warning for the Fruits Basket manga.)

Do you update frequently?

Eh, that's hard to say, really. I mean, it's not like a post once a day or even once a week, but I think I post somewhat frequently.

Do you frequently use original characters?

Oh, yes. Definitely. Most of my multi-parts have original characters in major roles.

What's your newest story?

On FF.net, Gift Anxiety, a Yuki/Tohru Fruits Basket story I wrote for

[profile] 15pairings.

What story are you most proud of?

Most people will probably expect me to say either Against the Rules or Spirit of Fire, but I'm not. Actually, I would have to say the three stories I'm most proud of are Kiss Me, Machiavelli's Folly, and Hawk's Eye View. I think those three are the best written and have the best characterizations of all my stories.

Are any of your stories based on things that happened to you in real life?

Not really.

heavenly_pearl: (Default)
Title: Gift Anxiety
Theme: #8 Thoughtful
Fandom: Fruits Basket
Pairing: Sohma Yuki/Honda Tohru
Disclaimer: Fruits Basket is the property of Takaya Natsuki.

heavenly_pearl: (Default)

What are your five favorite canonical friendships?

1. Sora/Mia/Anna (Kaleido Star)
2. Ran/Aya/Miyu (Super GALS)
3. Hatori/Shigure/Ayame (Fruits Basket)
4. Nana O. and Nana K. (NANA)
5. Ayu and Nina (Ultramaniac)

Honorable Mentions: Tohru/Uo/Hana (Fruits Basket), Sakura and Tomoyo (Card Captor Sakura), Vash and Wolfwood (Trigun), Rei and Minako (Sailor Moon), Harry/Ron/Hermione (Harry Potter)

Heh, it should have been the top ten favorite friendships. *laughs*

Anyway, in other news, I've decided to join another fic challenge community, [info]15pairings. The goal of the community is to take a specific fandom and a set of themes and write romantic fics for fifteen different pairings in that fandom. Even though I've mentioned several times that I didn't really feel comfortable writing any more Fruits Basket fics until the rest of the manga was out in English, I went ahead and claimed it anyway, namely because it was one of the few fandoms I could think of where I could come up with fifteen pairings that I would want to write about. *laughs* I think it'll be okay, though, since they will all be rather short fics, and I'm not planning to do any post-series stories. If I do write post-series, I can always use anime canon, I guess.

So I have a handy list to check off, here are the themes: )

And list of pairings (subject to change and may contain manga spoilers) )
