On Full Moon and Fruits Basket

So, I read the two volumes I bought of Full Moon, and I'm just amazed how different the pacing is from the manga.
As for the other book I bought this weekend, the Fruits Basket fanbook, it has given me an idea for a project. One of the nifty things the fanbook includes is a timeline showing most of the major events that have happened in the manga so far. However, other than Tohru meeting Uo and Hana in middle school, Kyoko's death, and something kind of spoiler-y for those who haven't read the manga, none of the pre-canon (happening prior to Tohru moving in with the Sohmas) events are shown. That kind of sucks because there are quite a few flashbacks spread throughout the course of the story that are sometimes hard to date. What I want to do is make a detailed FB timeline, including every major event mentioned, including the birth years of all the major characters and Sohmas (since Rin and Kagura's ages are actually wrong in the fanbook). I think it would be quite helpful for my
15pairingsfics, as well as other fanfic writers. ^_^
(Oh, man, I just realized I missed the five year anniversary of Yume no Kagami. It was the fifth of this month. That sucks; five years deserves something a little special. Oh, well, I'll try to come up with something to do by the end of the month. Better late than never, right?)
I mean, the last volume of the anime I watched was Vol. 6, so I've probably seen about 24 episodes. At that point, Mitsuki and Madoka had only just finished competing for the commercial deal, and Izumi and Jonathan hadn't even appeared yet. In the manga, though, the commercial audition happens at the end of the first volume/beginning of the second volume, right about the time the other two shinigami are introduced. At times, I thought the anime kind of dragged, but, man, the manga's on hyper-speed! *laughs* I guess it makes sense, though, since the manga is only seven volumes long.
The manga's good, but I have a feeling that this is going to be one of those rare cases where the anime actually surpasses the original manga. (I hope VIZ doesn't drop the anime midway, as rumors have been speculating.) The anime makes Mitsuki's rise as an idol a bit more believable, since she learns an important lesson about show business practically every episode, so you can see her character grow as a person and as a singer. The manga gives her some development, but it doesn't seem to ring quite as true. I also didn't really care for how Mitsuki decided to leave her grandmother's house without even telling her. I definitely prefer their gradually thawing relationship in the anime.
The one thing I do prefer about the manga? Eichi, Mitsuki's love interest, is only sixteen instead of eighteen. I find it a little more believable that a sixteen year old would fall in love with a twelve year old, rather than an eighteen year old. (And, actually, I think he confessed to her when they were a couple of years younger.) Granted, four years is still quite a gap when you're talking teenagers and pre-teens, but considering their circumstances, I can kind of see it. The anime Eichi, though, you kind of have to wonder...
