Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Eh, it doesn't look like much (especially compared to the last couple of years when I was active with sailormoonland), but they were all pretty substantial stories (no drabbles/ficlets), so I think I wrote a decent amount this year. I really wish I had managed to finish "Melting Ice", though. That was my main goal for this year, but it just didn't happen.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2012?
Well, I actually started both of the stories last year, so the "would never have predicted in January 2012" doesn't really apply, but there were two surprising pairings I wrote. The first was Leon/Sora in "No Longer Alone". I'm much more of a Ken/Sora shipper, and the story didn't even start out as a L/S fic, but, eh, those two just had other plans. *laughs* The other surprising pairing was Hawkseye/Chibi-Usa in "Salvation". Yes, you read that right. Granted, the story is ultimately Helios/Chibi-Usa (of course), but still, it's was an interesting pairing to write, to say the least!
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Hmm, this is tough to decide. I liked pretty much everything I wrote this year, but I guess if I had to choose, I would go with either "Politically Incorrect" or "No Longer Alone".
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
Well, "Salvation" is an AU vampire Sailor Moon story, so I guess that was a bit of a writing risk for me.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
I WILL finish "Melting Ice" in 2013 if it is the last thing I do! After I finish with "Salvation", which is close to the end, I'm putting everything else on hold and working only on MI. It is time for that story to be DONE. How many years have passed since I first started it? I'm thinking at least five. I'm definitely ready for it to be over. Fortunately, it is finally nearing the end point. I thinking it'll probably end at around thirty chapters, and I have twenty-three already written. I can write seven chapters in a year!
I'd also like to finish the Hiro/Kisa story I started, since I don't think I wrote anything for 15pairings this year.
My Favorite Story:
Like I said before, "Politically Incorrect" or "No Longer Alone".
My Best Story:
I think "Politically Incorrect" is the best written, although I'm not entirely happy with the ending.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:
Well, "Worth The Wait" only has three reviews at FF.net, so I guess I'll go with that.
Most Fun:
Hmm, I didn't really write any comedies this year. Pretty much just drama, which is certainly fun for me to write, but I don't think that's what is being asked... No, wait, "Worth The Wait" was a bit of a romantic comedy, and it was a Helios/Chibi-Usa story to boot, so I think it fits the bill.
Most Disappointing:
I was fairly satisfied with everything I wrote this year, I think. The only disappointing thing is not finishing "Melting Ice" like I said I would.
Most Sexy and Best Sexy Moment:
Ah, ha... I can't talk about that, because nobody is ever going to see it EVER. All I'm going to say is that vampire!Hawkseye is a total PERVERT who likes his sex VERY kinky... Uh, I might have said too much anyway.
Okay, talking about stuff that was actually posted (or will be posted in the future), there were some pretty sexy moments in "Worth the Wait", especially the skinny-dipping scene. "Consummation" was more sweet and awkward than sexy, but sometimes that's nice. Actually, I think the sexiest scene I wrote this year was for the unposted "Friends With Benefits", when Layla and Yuri hook up in a car.
Hardest to Write:
Heh, "Melting Ice", but at least the two main characters are finally in love. I've mentioned before how much I hate writing the "falling in love" part, right? I'm hoping now it'll be easier.
Most Unintentionally Telling:
Not telling. :P
In other news, guess who managed to find a decently-priced Man of Many Faces Vol. 2 on the Amazon Marketplace? I did! Usually they're ridiculously expensive, so I was going to exclude the series from my "collect all CLAMP series" goal, but it seems like the prices are finally going down. I got both volumes for about $20. *dances* Now I'm on the hunt for a cheap Kobato. Vol. 5, which seems to be out of print already. (Strange for a relatively new CLAMP series.) Amazon seems to still be selling them for retail price, but they don't have any currently in stock, and I'm not confident they'll ever get anymore in because the cheapest one I found on the Marketplace was for $97! Nobody would sell it for that much if it was still easy to find retail.
