Hopefully 2021 will be a lot better than 2020.

Anyway, here's the traditional look back on the fanfics I wrote. I'm just going to link to my Tumblr.

Fanfic End of the Year Asks

I just wanted to show off some really cool Sailor Moon stuff I recently bought from eBay (all from the same seller) that came in today. (Don't mind the glitter... That's where my Christmas tree was, and I haven't gotten around to cleaning it up yet. They're not going to stay there anyway.)

Pretty awesome, right? I'm especially in love with the Super Sailor Moon karaoke machine, circa probably the mid-90s. I had to pay close to $50 for her, but it was definitely worth it. She'd never really been taken out of the box, so she was still in working order. When you press her brooch, it plays an instrumental version of Moonlight Densetsu that you can sing along with. What's funny is that I first came across her on this French Sailor Moon collection site a couple of weeks ago and instantly fell in love, but figured I would never find one for sale. So imagine how happy I was when one actually did show up on eBay -- and at a fairly reasonable price to boot! The other three items are a Pluto magnet, a Pluto cell phone strap, and another fun item: a SuperS jigsaw puzzle/dry erase board, all from the 90s as well, I believe. Definitely old merchandise, but in great condition.

In other exciting news, I won a $25 gift certificate to Right Stuf, thanks to the Christmas giveaway over at one of my favorite manga review sites, Manga Test Drive. Would have been nice to have during their Christmas sale, but I'm sure I won't have any trouble finding something else to spend it on!

Happy New Year!

Let's hope I can finally, finally, FINALLY finish Melting Ice this year. Gah, it feels like I've been writing that story for a decade now...

And now that the Fall anime season is ending, I hope to have a final review of the shows I watched posted sometime next week, after I finish watching a last few episodes, so look forward to that!

Some people like to celebrate the holiday by making resolutions. Me? I prefer splurging on anime. ^_^ I used up two of the three Visa gift cards I got for Christmas on orders from Right Stuf.

With the $75 card my sister gave me, I bought:
CLAMP South Side Artbook - I've been wanting a CLAMP artbook forever, and since it was in the Bargain Bin, the price was right. Unfortunately, they don't have the North Side artbook. Guess I'll have to find a copy at Amazon Marketplace.
Slayers OVA Collection - I picked up all five seasons of the main series thanks to that amazing deal during their 12 Days of Anime sale, and I've really enjoyed what I've seen so far -- I'm almost finished with the second season -- so getting the OVAs was a bit of no-brainer, especially at only ten dollars.
Vols. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 of Hare + Guu - This anime is HILARIOUS! And since Netflix is missing some discs, buying them is the only way I'll be able to watch the whole serious. Too bad they didn't have Vol. 5, though. Guess that's another thing I'll be picking up at the Marketplace.
$1 Blind Box item - Eh, I had a dollar left on the card, and it'll be fun to see what I get.

And with one of the $100 cards from my parents, I ordered:
Kaze no Stigma boxset
Bamboo Blade boxset
Gurren Lagann boxset - I almost got Spice and Wolf instead, but Gurren Lagann has more episodes for the same price and I liked it a little more.
Keychain of Light from Death Note

Pretty nice haul for $175, right? I'll probably leave the last gift card for ordering stuff from the Marketplace.

Some of you might remember me making a post a few months ago about the possibility of me starting a review blog for anime/manga. I originally decided against it when only two people showed interest in it, but the desire to write reviews never really fully disappeared. So, as one of my New Year's resolutions, I've decided that whenever I read through a complete manga series (new or old), I'll write a review about it. (Thanks to Netflix, I watch too many series for this to be a realistic goal for anime, but who knows? I may write a few anime reviews here and there as well.) It's possible I'll eventually branch these off into a separate journal, but for now, I'll just post them here (and maybe my website).

First up is Night of the Beasts

(Note: Possible spoilers, although I tried not to spoil anything major beyond the second volume (unless you consider some characters' names to be spoilers). Also, the "score" uses the MyAnimeList.net 1-10 rating system.)

Well, it's 2007. Been a pretty dull New Year's. Both my parents went to bed early, but at least Samuraiter thoughtfully stayed up way past his usual bedtime so we could ring in my midnight together, even if it was just over the Internet. (*sigh* Sometimes it kinda sucks being in a long-distance relationship.)

On a good note, however, I finally managed to beat the Super Mario Bros. 2 game Laura gave me for Christmas. This is the first time I've ever beaten a Mario game, so I'm quite proud of myself. Wahoo! Go me! Granted, I think it's probably the easiest of the three, but still, my winning streak on my GBA just keeps going. I haven't played a game yet that I haven't beaten.

May the streak continue into the new year.

Cheers!

Heh...

I think I've just managed to add another chapter to Against the Rules. I didn't mean to, but I just couldn't let Maeko appear only once. >.< So, now there's a New Year's party. I might be able to add it onto Ch. 14, which is the actual New Year chapter, but I'm thinking it'll probably work better on it's own.

And once again, I must ask Helios-muse why he insists on working on later scenes when I should be working on the disaster that is Ch. 3.

The good news is that Ch. 2 is done. Editors should expect to receive an email from me later tonight. Also, once Starsea manages to give me those corrections for Ch. 1, I can finally start posting. Yippee!

Here's hoping it's better than last year.

So, what to talk about? I know I haven't posted for a few days, but I was hoping more people would reply to the meme in the last entry. :( Oh, well.

I finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire a couple of nights ago, and I must say it was the best of the books I've read so far. The plotting was definitely much improved from the first three books. There was a main story, and it actually was the focus of the book, not like SS and PoA where it seemed like the supposed main story was more of one of several subplots. The only true subplot in GoF was Rita Skeeter and her tabloid articles, but at least that was pretty amusing.

Now, I assume I don't really need to put these spoilers under a cut since most fans have already read it, but if by chance you haven't and want to remain unspoiled (Kate, possibly), you might want to quit reading.

Likes
- Only a short appearance of the Dursleys. I can't stand them, so I was glad when Harry spent the rest of the holiday with the Weasleys.
- Bill and Charlie finally made an actual appearance. I've rather taken a liking to Bill. ^_^ He's supposed to hook up with Fleur in future books, right? I'll be very interested in seeing that. (Charlie's cool, too.)
- Speaking of Fleur, I loved the idea of meeting wizards and witches from other countries. I only wish we got to know at least a couple of the others besides Krum and Fleur.
- The Ron/Hermione exchanges. They so have the hots for each other.
- The surprise of who Mad-Eye Moody really is. If I hadn't done what I usually do and flipped to the end, I would have been really shocked to find out he was the bad guy. I actually liked him. He had a gruff exterior, but seemed really kind.
- Getting to know a little bit more about Sirius' personality, even if it was mostly through letters. I can see why so many people like him.

Dislikes
- No Quidditch, except for the World Cup at the beginning. Now, I'm not neccessarily disappointed in the absence of Quidditch itself, but of Lee Jordan's hilarious commentary of the game. I missed it. He should have have done the commentary for the Triwizard Tournament instead of Bagman.
- Draco didn't really do much besides taunting Harry over Rita Skeeter's articles and being a big supporter of the "Support Cedric Diggory, Harry Potter Stinks" campaign.
- Maybe it was because I knew that Cedric died beforehand, but his death was really anticlimatic. I mean, he and Harry are transported to the graveyard, and almost immediately, he's killed without even having a real chance to defend himself. He should have been given the chance to do something and die a hero.

Okay, so for the past month of so, we've had this bottle of Sangria in our refrigerator. I have no idea who bought it or what it's for, but I figured it was either A) a birthday or Christmas present for my little sister, who just turned twenty-one a couple of weeks ago or B) for a special occasion, like New Year's or something like that. Well, today when I went to get a glass of orange juice, I noticed somebody had gotten into the wine. Since I've never had alcohol before and I've always wanted to try wine, I figured, "Hey, it's about time I finally I finally take advantage of being legal and stop being such a goody-two-shoes," so I poured myself a tiny glass and drank it.

What did I think?

Yucky. I don't know if it was just cheap or what, but it was absolutely disgusting.

Yeah, I don't see me drinking again any time soon.
