A movie review and another writing meme.
Jan. 20th, 2006 10:43 pmFinally, a Miyazaki film I actually enjoyed! I wasn't too impressed with Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, but Kiki's Delivery Service is fab-u-lous. Great characters, touching emotion, a simplistic, yet wonderful plot... What more could you ask for? Actually, I was reminded quite a bit of Someday's Dreamers while watching it. They have similar plots -- a young witch/mage leaving home in order to train -- and a lot of the same themes, such as coming-of-age and finding confidence in yourself. I guess it's really no suprise I liked it so much. ^_^
Note to self: Must buy Kiki's Delivery Service.
Anyway, I found another fun little writing meme, taken from

1. I tend to focus on family relationships, rather than friendships and romance.
2. If I can find a way to slip in a reference to Helios, Elysion, or anything related to SuperS/Dream Arc, I will.
3. I know it's horrible writing, but I love comparing eye colors to gemstones. >.<
4. It will be clean of any language not allowed on prime time network television.
5. It's a first person monologue, a la Taboo and The Most Important Lesson.
6. It's a Someday's Dreamers fic, since I'm one of the few authors who writes for it.
7. At least one of the characters has "porcelain" skin. I can't help it -- I love that description. ^_^
8. The action scenes suck.
9. There's some totally fanciful and unnecessary description of the stars and/or moon in the sky (i.e. Stars shimmered like glitter on black velvet, and the regal moon, currently in its crescent phase, shone luminously, its reflection dancing upon the water mirror of the building’s outdoor swimming pool. - from Against the Rules.)
10. A character looks out the window or stares at a photograph while thinking or remembering something important. (I watch way too many soap operas. *laughs*)
I want to do the WIP meme, but the only real one I have at the moment is Against the Rules. While I do have other half-finished stories laying around, they're not really developed enough to have any great lines. Oh, well.
Note to self: Must buy Kiki's Delivery Service.
