Aug. 19th, 2007 08:28 pmThink about all of the fandoms for which you write. List five characters you have problems "capturing" (i.e. writing in character). Post them in your journal. Then tag at least three authors from your flist you respect and ask them to do the same.
1. Kino Makoto/Sailor Jupiter (Sailor Moon) - She wasn't that difficult to work with in Against the Rules, but, still, I consider her the most difficult senshi for me to write, mainly because I just don't have much in common with her.
2. May Wong (Kaleido Star) - She plays a fairly important supporting role in Fire and Ice -- I so have to think of a better title for that -- as Yume and Mikhail's pairs coach, but I don't think I'm getting her right. I don't know if it is because it's been a while since I watched the second season (coming out as a boxset on Sept. 4!), or if it is the fact that she's about eighteen years older than she was in canon, but she doesn't come very easily for me.
3. Kikuchi Yume (Someday's Dreamers) - I once tried writing a journal-style story for her once, but I eventually dropped it because I didn't think I was really getting her voice right.
4. Tomoe Hotaru/Sailor Saturn (Sailor Moon) The second most difficult senshi for me to write, I suppose, although I haven't actually tried much. I did give up on my "Haruka teaches Hotaru to drive" fic due to problems with Hotaru, though.
5. Milinda (Someday's Dreamers) - I'm one of the few people out there who writes Someday's Dreamers fic, so when I was writing my Milinda story, I had absolutely no examples of other writers' characterizations of her to research to make sure I was doing her justice. I was going in blind, which made me nervous. In the end, I suppose I did okay with her, but it was tough.

Man, this meme was tougher than it seemed! Usually, I just avoid writing the characters I think I'll have problems with in a major role, so it was difficult to think of examples where I tried and thought I failed.
