1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot chocolate is yum!
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Doesn't he do both? Well, I guess the elves probably do the actual wrapping... Oh, that's not what the question meant?
We wrap presents.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Definitely white. They're more elegant and beautiful.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
For the living room, the tradition used to be after Thanksgiving dinner, but Mom's been putting them up earlier for the past couple of years for some reason. (This year, they were up about a week before Thanksgiving.) When it comes to my room, though, I keep to the Thanksgiving tradition, although I was a little late this year because the lights on top half of my pre-lit Christmas tree stopped working. I had to get a new one.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
Deviled eggs! I only get to eat them on holidays. :(
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
I remember one Christmas Eve we were out of milk for Santa, so we left him a can of beer instead. I think "Santa" preferred that over the milk, truthfully. *laughs* Also, I remember one year we had an all-Barbie Christmas. My sister and I got some clothes, but everything else was Barbie stuff. That Christmas was AWESOME. (One year I want an all anime/manga Christmas, but I doubt that'll ever happen...)
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I probably heard the truth from kids from school, but I don't remember what grade that was. Maybe third or fourth? The one thing I do remember is that for Christmas that year, my little sister got an extra present since she still believed in Santa. (Actually, to this day, Mom likes us to we say we believe in Santa. I don't tend to humor her, but Laura still does. Suck-up. *laughs*)
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
A gift? We open all our gifts on Christmas Eve! Then we get stockings and a few extra presents from "Santa" on Christmas Day.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
Normally my taste runs toward modern/contemporary, but Christmas is the one time when I'm all about traditional design. The tree I put up in my room is always green with white lights. Ornaments consist of lots of balls, bows, and vintage-looking glass-blown ornaments. I use a strand of silver beads for garland, and there's a silver star on top. I do not like icicles on my tree, though. Not only are they messy, they cover up all the pretty decorations!
For the living room, if we put up the big tree, it's usually white lights, star tree topper, every ornament we own, and icicles. (Mom loves them for some reason.) This year, though, we have a little white tree, decorated with red and gold ornaments. It's pretty -- and definitely more Christmas-y than the blue-decorated small tree Mom put up a few years ago -- but I don't know... It just doesn't feel as homey. It looks more like a tree you would see in a store or something. And next year, she's talking about using the white tree again, with purple decorations. Ugh. Sometimes I understand exactly how Charlie Brown feels...
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Love it! Unfortunately, we rarely get it, although we did get snow on Christmas Eve once a few years ago. That was amazing.
12. Can you ice skate?
No... It's the greatest disappointment in my life that I can't. (And that's no exaggeration. If you know my love of figure skating, you knowI would love, love, love to be able to skate, but I can't even roller skate. -_-)
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
My diamond ring! I always wanted one, so my parents bought me one my sophomore year. It's one of my most cherished possessions.
14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
I don't know... I love everything about the holidays, so it's hard to pick a most important thing.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Hmm, I'm not sure... It's not like we have any set holiday desserts. Mom just makes whatever she feels like making that year.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
I like going to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. We don't go every year, but it's always a beautiful service.
17. What tops your tree?
On my tree, it's a simple silver star covered in glittered. On Mom's tree, it's a gold star with a sprig of holly in the center.
18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving?
Both!
19. Candy Canes?
Yummy! Love them. I usually end up eating the majority of the candy canes in my family. ... I guess I would say candy canes are actually my favorite holiday dessert.
20. Favorite Christmas show?
If we're talking anime, I always have to watch the Sailor Moon S movie. I also really love both Card Captor Sakura Christmas episodes.
For non-anime favorites... My favorite Christmas movies are White Christmas, the new Miracle of 34th Street, Love Actually, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and The Santa Clause movies. (Mmm, David Krumholtz as an elf...) I also have an inexplicable love of A Very Brady Christmas, but it's been years since I last saw it. (They used to show it every year on TV when I was little.)
Christmas specials? Charlie Brown Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
21. Saddest Christmas Song?
Josh Groban's I'll Be Home For Christmas. It's interspersed with messages from soldiers who won't be able to see their families for Christmas, and it never, never, never fails to make me cry. (The song itself is pretty sad as well.)
22. What is your favorite Christmas song?
O Come All Ye Faithful. I think that's due to the aforementioned A Very Brady Christmas. If you've never seen it, at the end of the movie, Mike becomes trapped in collapsed building after rescuing some construction workers. The family's all gathered at the site, and Cindy reminds Carol about the year she asked Santa to give a sick Carol her voice back so she could sing at the Christmas service at church. Carol begins singing O Come All Ye Faithful, the song she sang at that service, and everybody else begins joining in. Hearing them singing, Mike is finally able to find his way out of the rubble. That scene has always stuck with me.
Plus, it's just a plain gorgeous song!
