You might want to consider some of the mini-tablets as well. They are the same size as the nook/kindle and are a little more versatile. I just got my daughter a 7" Asus tablet for $85 and she loves it. I don't know if she has tried reading manga on it or not, but she loaded a drawing app (free) and makes some amazing anime-style drawings.
