*dances*

Of course, there wasn't much of a chance of her actually losing with Michelle Kwan not there, but still, it's great that she's won her first national title -- and while recovering from the flu to boot. ^_^

Still no word yet if Michelle will be given the last berth. That'll be decided later tonight. I'm just happy that my two favorites -- Sasha and Kimmie Meissner, who finished second -- are pretty much set for the Olympics. If Michelle, for some strange reason, doesn't get the berth, the third spot will probably go to bronze medalist Emily Hughes.

Fourth place was the big surprise, though. It went to Katy Taylor, a skater from Houston. ^_^ She had a very good free skate, pulling up from seventh after the short program. Who knows, maybe by 2010, Houston can claim another Olympic gold medalist in ladies' figure skating. (The first being Tara Lipinski.)

In other skating news, they did end up showing Tanith and Ben's (fantastic) free dance, which made me happy, but I was annoyed that they didn't show any of the other ice dancers or pairs' teams. The entire first hour of the show which could have been spent showing the winning ice dance and pairs' programs was spent reviewing highlights from ladies' short programs, showing a tribute to Michelle Kwan (about which my mom said, and I quote, "It sounds as if she died"), and doing a profile on an eleven year old skater who wasn't even in the competition. If they weren't going to show some actual skating during that first hour, they should have just made it a two hour show.

*sigh*

I need cable. I hate what ABC's done to their figure skating coverage.

Tara's technically from Sugarland though. Does Houston really claim her victory? I remember that she's from Sugarland because my mom and I used to go shopping there sometimes, and there was one time when a parade was being thrown. She was in it and I got to see her for a few minutes. ^^;

I feel so bad for Michelle Kwan. She's clearly phenomenal, but she just won't stop competing until she gets the gold medal. The pressure she puts on herself is tremendous.

Yeah, pretty much. Actually, I have her autobiography -- yes, I'm such a skating geek -- and she says she's from Houston as well. No mention of Sugar Land at all (at least in the chapter I checked about her move), even though that is technically her hometown. I say if she considers herself Houstonian, then they can claim her, kind of like I claim the Houston Astros as my local team even though I'm from a small town about an hour away. ^_^

I didn't watch it...I watched the other skating program that compared skating and gymnastics.

I'd rather stare at Brian Boitano's butt.

I didn't know about that program... Was it on cable? That might have been interesting to watch (provided it didn't conflict with Nationals coverage, but I still could have flipped).

Nope. No cable. I'm not sure which channel it was on...seems like it was late afternoon, maybe?

The Hamm brothers.... ~sigh~ soooo cute.

Probably NBC, then, the network channel we can't get. If it had been on any other channel, I'm sure I would have spotted it. ^_^
