So despite the fact that I'm already working on two multiparts -- granted, one is pretty much finished -- and a short story (also almost finished), I'm thinking of starting a new multi-part.

The idea was actually inspired by a paragraph I wrote for To Be By Your Side (from a later, currently unposted chapter) in which I talk a little bit about Helios' life when he first became priest of Elysion. It got me thinking about how I don't think I've ever read a Helios origination fic. (If somebody knows of one, please tell me, because I would love to read it!) Being the huge Helios fan I am, I'm tempted to remedy that.

But I'm also feeling a bit daunted. It's shaping up to be quite an ambitious story already, and I haven't even started writing it. It's going to take a lot of research, too. I'm currently working my way through the Greek mythology section at Wikipedia, reading every article that I think might be helpful. I'm not necessarily going for accuracy -- heck, even the Greek writers can't keep their mythology straight! -- just inspiration. For example, although the historical Oracles of Delphi were either young virgins (at first) or older women (later, after one of the virgin Oracles was raped -- guess they thought no one would be interested in raping somebody with wrinkles), my idea is for her to be a Dream Seer and Helios' mother. Delphi -- well, more precisely, Mount Parnassus, which Delphi rests at the bottom of -- is also going to serve as the entrance to Elysion, going with the Greek idea that Delphi is the "womb" of the Earth and Elysion is located inside the planet. (You know, it's kind of funny how well some of this works out. According to my research, Mount Parnassus was also the home of Pegasus. Kind of perfect, right? *laughs*)

As for Helios' father... I haven't made my final decision yet, but he's actually going to be a canon character, not a mythological one. One shares a prominent physical trait with Helios, so he would probably make the best choice based solely on looks, but I like the other one better and think he's more the type Phoebe (Helios' mother) would fall for based on their respective affinities... (Hehe, anybody have any guesses on who the possible baby daddies may be?)

Well, anyway, I don't know if this is going anywhere, but I'm off to do more research!
