Look what I've been doing...

It should be obvious, but there's no manga review this week. I have a couple that are almost done, and I probably could have finished one to post yesterday, but, eh, I've been having too much fun with my new GIMP program instead. Finally, I can make icons again!
I can't share the two I made for

First up is this basic Setsuna icon. Nothing really special about it. I just cropped the picture and added the text, but I like how it turned out. (And, wow, Setsuna has great boobs. I'm just saying...)

Next one is a little more advanced. The one on the left is the original cropped pic, nothing done to it, while the one on the right is the completed version. You probably can't really see the difference, because it is very slight, but I did some coloring with layers to give it a little more somber look. I also got rid of the petals in the upper right hand corner to add the text "Memento Mori", which happens to be the title Naoko gave that picture. Something went wrong with the "Memento" part -- it looks like part of the first m and the o got cut off somehow -- but overall I was pretty pleased with how it turned out.

The last one I wanted to submit to the Evil Ladies challenge, but apparently Fisheye and Zoisite don't count as "ladies" even though they underwent a sex change in the dub. Oh, well, I still really like this one. It's probably the most complicated one I've done so far, mostly because I was crazy enough to erase the background of the original pic. Yeah, that was a pain to do, but it was worth it, I think. Afterwards, I filled the background in with pink, added a rippling water pattern overlay (since he's Fisheye), added another layer to give the whole thing more of a pinkish cast, then finally put in the text, made up of three different fonts.

Huh, the original file looks sharper than that. You can't even see the ripple pattern and the text looks blurry. (It's supposed to say, in the words of Shania Twain, "Man, I feel like a woman." Can y'all read that?) Uploading it to Photobucket must have distorted it somehow, but I guess it still looks mostly okay. How disappointing. This was my favorite of the three.
If one of them catches your eye, feel free to take if you want with credit, and if anybody has any critiques or tips, I'm all ears. I'm still learning, so any help will be most appreciated!
