30 Days On Fanfic - Day 18

Day 18 – Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

Mostly from canon itself, honestly. I love taking canon events that there aren't very detailed (like character histories) and expanding them. 

Sometimes, though, inspiration can come from the strangest things. Take Tick Tock, for example, the story of a cuckoo clock that drives Setsuna crazy. The idea came to me when the clock in the living room began driving me nuts with its loud ticking. (It wasn't a cuckoo clock, though, thank goodness.)

And a lot of times, I can even be inspired by other people's fics. In fact, that was the case of my first fic, as I mentioned in the answer to the first question of this meme. Some other examples:

Hawk's Eye View - Inspired by a fic in which Fisheye decides to go after Haruka. I thought it would be fun to write one in which Hawkseye goes after Setsuna.

Spirit of Fire - Inspired by a lot of fics focusing on the relationship between Rei and her father, but mostly blue's Paper Wishes, which was the first story I read that portrayed Rei's father in a faintly sympathetic light.

Against the Rules - This was actually inspired by a fic I tried to read called Games of Seduction. It was an insanely popular AU story back in the day in which Usagi is a student who begins an affair with her teacher Mamoru. (Although the story might have used dubbed names. I don't really remember.) The characterization was just terrible. Really. I never could make it through the entire story, even though I tried to read it at least two or three times to see what the fuss was about. However, since I do have a bit of a kink for student/teacher relationships, I decided to try write my own and decided that if any senshi was the type to fall in love with a teacher, it was intelligent Ami, not stupid Usagi. Thus, ATR was born.
