Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 10
Nov. 15th, 2014 08:53 amAnother great episode, with quite a bit of original content for once.
( Spoilers! )
A few minor disappointments, but all in all, I enjoyed the episode. It'll be another three week wait until the next one, though...
I've also gotten through the first eight episodes of the new Viz dub of the first series, which I'm really enjoying. I wasn't sure about Usagi's new voice based on the preview clips, but I'm happy to report that Stephanie Sheh is actually the perfect Usagi. I'm absolutely loving her performance! The rest of the voice actors are really well cast, too, for the most part. The only one I'm kinda iffy about is Naru. She sounds fine in her higher register, but when she's in her lower register...something just feels off about the tone of her voice. I can't really put my finger on why, though. Maybe I'm still hearing Naru's old dub voice in my head or something, so it feels weird hearing her sound so different. I felt that same disconnect with Luna in the beginning, but I've gotten used to her new voice now, so maybe Naru's will grow on me, too.
One thing I don't understand is why "Gomen-ne" and "Shinjitieru" (or however it is spelled) are left in romanji in the English translation of the opening song. It's not like those are hard to translate words; they just mean "I'm sorry," and "I believe in it," respectfully. They even keep "Gomen-ne" in the English version of the song that Usagi and Naru butcher in the Cinderella Caravan episode, which is especially strange. I'd really like to know the reasoning behind that decision, but that's just a minor thing. Otherwise, it's a very good adaptation so far. Not 100% faithful to the Japanese script (more like 98%), but a definite improvement over the old dub!
