Another great episode! Ami was actually pretty awesome in this one.
- It's so cute and sweet how Mamoru and Luna try to cheer Chibi-Usa up.
- I'm a little disappointed that they didn't show Ami and Makoto going back to Rei's school to talk to Kotono and Asanuma about what happened with Rei like in the manga, but I can understand why it was cut. It was basically just summarizing what we already knew, anyway.
- They also left out Asanuma's flashback to how he met Mamoru, but I'm hoping that might show up next episode, since Asanuma plays a fairly big role in that.
- I wish they had left out Mamoru trying to comfort Usagi while she's pushing him away, though. That part was in the manga, too, but seeing it animated made it look like Mamoru was trying to force a kiss on her. (If they felt they had to include it, the least he could have done was let her go when it was obvious that she didn't want him to comfort her at that moment instead of ending that scene with them in such an awkward pose.)
- Wiseman's voice is kinda strange...
- I like how they showed Ami using her connection to water to discover where the broken pipe is.
- Naru was pretty funny when she passed Ami in the other lane at the pool. Also, the ruffes on her swimsuit straps remind me of that really cute swimsuit she wore in the first anime. (Think it was in the episode where she told Usagi she had a crush on Nephrite.)
- On the one hand, I really loved that Ami told Naru and Usagi a little about her father. On the other hand, I'm now annoyed that they cut out the gossiping about Rei's family life in the last episode. Granted, the fact that Ami's father taught her how to swim and how to play chess is more relevant to the plot of the episode, while Rei's backstory was just off-handedly mentioned in her focus manga chapter, but still, I'm starting to get the feeling that the people behind Crystal just don't care that much about Rei since they also toned down her personality in first arc. (Last episode was better about that, though, thankfully.)
- Something I always wondered -- how did Berthier become the third-ranked chess player in the world when she's only been in this world for like maybe a week at most?
- And I can't believe she went on TV in that outfit... Throwing a jacket over her shoulders did nothing to hide the fact that she was basically just wearing a swimsuit and boots. At least she wore a pencil skirt over her outfit in the manga. (Maybe they'll fix that in the physical release.)
- The chess battle was intense, especially when Berthier started trying to unnerve Ami by playing on Ami's fear of people leaving her like her father did. Much more interesting than what the manga did with that match, which was pretty boring. Still, if they hadn't expanded that scene, they probably could have fit in the visit to Rei's school, so as much as I loved Ami's development, I'm again annoyed that Rei was kinda shafted, since she's one of my favorites.
- Hehe, I loved Usagi cheering Ami on from the audience while an embarrassed Minako and Makoto try to get her to quiet down.
- Cool battle. It was great to see Ami and Berthier fighting on their own for at least a little while.
- Shine Snow Illusion was kinda blah, though.
The preview for the next episode looks really good! Makoto's focus episode in the first arc has been one of my favorites (if not THE favorite) so far, so I have high hopes that her next focus episode will be just as amazing.
