Against the Rules

“Love isn’t supposed to be objective, Akira! That is why it is called an emotion, and if you can turn it off so easily, then I have to wonder if you even felt it in the first place.” - Said by Ami to Akira

This is one of my favorite lines of mine, period, because it's something I have to remind myself every once in a while. I consider myself more logical than emotional, so sometimes characters will get on my nerves when they pick a romantic partner based solely on love (or lust, as the case might be), and not who is actually best for them. (To use a popular example, like how in the Twilight series, Bella chooses Edward instead of Jacob, who is the more logical, sane choice.) I just have to remind myself that love isn't always logical.

Spirit of Fire

“No, it wasn’t. Your grief was painful, but never your love." - Said by Minoru to Keitaro.

I think this is another profound line. People like to say "Love hurts," but you know, if you think like that, then I don't think you know real love. Sure, love can certainly lead to heartbreak and grief, but the emotion itself? It shouldn't hurt. That's not love.

To Be By Your Side

Hmm, this is kind of hard just picking from the three chapters I have posted. I think there are better lines in later chapters, but if I have to choose, then there are two lines that I rather like from the newest chapter.

"If my happiness comes at your expense, then I will not be happy at all." - Said by Helios to Hyperion

I think this line really sums up one of the main themes of To Be By Your Side. It's about people making sacrifices to make the people they love happy, without realizing that sometimes it'll cause them grief and sadness.

For a moment, it felt like time itself had stopped, like the planet had stopped turning on its axis. Serenity was paralyzed, her breath caught in her throat, and her heart seized up as if somebody had punched a hole in her chest and grabbed it in their hand, squeezing it like one would do an orange. She faintly heard voices around her, but it sounded like they were miles away, echoes in a cavernous canyon.

Heh, well, that's more like a passage than a line, but I always have trouble writing description, so I was pretty proud of how it turned out.
