From Anime News Network: Natsuki Takaya Launches Fruits Basket another Sequel Web Manga
Huh. Well, I absolutely love Fruits Basket -- the manga is my all-time favorite -- but I must confess I don't really get the point of a Fruits Basket sequel, especially with how it ended.(The curse on the Sohma family was broken, and it was strongly implied that it would never come back.) The article even says that none of the original characters will show up in the story -- it's focused on a new girl who attends Tohru's high school after she graduates -- so...yeah. It's a weird decision. If the mangaka wanted to do more FB manga, I think a collection of side stories would have worked better. There are a lot of things I wished I knew more about, like the Mabudachi Trio's high school days, Hatori and Mayu's relationship, Ayame and Mine's relationship, poor Ritsu who only showed up in a handful of chapters...
But all of this just reminds me -- somebody needs to remake the Fruits Basket anime now that the original manga is over! Come on, they've done Sailor Moon Crystal and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, so why not Fruits Basket?

on 2015-07-19 02:35 pm (UTC)I'd be on board with the side stories. The author did a better job than most manga authors of actually wrapping up most of her plot threads, but there's still unanswered questions. The one I'm still burning to know is what happened for Momiji and his estranged sister Momo? Did they ever get to meet? Could Momiji reconcile with his mother now that he's no longer a rabbit? How did the father, who had to choose between his son and his wife, cope with the idea that he could actually reunite his fractured family?
